Title: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Post by: Queequeg on December 18, 2024, 08:05:47 AM
Our family received some sad news this week regarding my son's health, which has us all feeling a little melancholy now. And this song (my favorite Christmas song) written in 1943 by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane is a bit melancholy, too. In the midst of WWII, our soldiers were engaged in battle and would not be home for Christmas that year.

And today, December 18 would be my mother's 100th birthday, so we remember her lovingly on this day.
Christmas was her favorite day of the year.

And I am wishing you all a very merry Christmas or however you and your family celebrate this season, and may the coming new year be an especially good one for you.
I recorded this on my phone today.

Merry Christmas and hoping your son's health improves. I enjoyed your arrangement of this tune. I just never got into learning these tunes as they are so much work and only used at one time of year. But I have learned a number of the Duck Baker arrangements from his CD The Salutation which has medieval and Renaissance tunes that probably aren't familiar to many people, and I could play them anytime and people probably wouldn't associate it with and holiday or time of year.

Nice arrangement, and a beautiful guitar too!

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs, though I don't play it instrumentally but rather sing it.  I have landed on sort of a 50s-sounding guitar vibe for it over the years.

There is a tinge if sadness in this song for sure, same goes for "I'll Be Home For Christmas."  All of us are flooded with memories of better days and people we miss this time of year.  It's strange how the holidays are nothing but great times when we were kids, but has we age they can be bittersweet.

Queequeg, thank you for your Christmas wishes and best hope for your son.  :thumbsup

Really enjoyed your rendition - especially the harmonics at the end.

Much obliged to each of you for your kind comments and good wishes.
And to BOWIE- yeah the mustache almost looks real, doesn't it? I'll pass along your compliments to my makeup artist.

I'm a little late to the party, but I loved the arrangement.  Nice playing!
