Title: Spotted some beautiful Larrivees at the recent Dallas Guitar Festival
Post by: Silence Dogood on May 07, 2022, 08:26:10 AM
Last weekend I went to the big Guitar Fest in Dallas.  It's mostly an electric guitar show but there were several acoustics to be found, though not necessarily to be heard since it was a loud setting.  One vendor had a couple really beautiful Larrivees with stunning inlay work.  On the 50th anniversary guitar the label appeared to be signed by Monsieur Larrivee himself.  I tend to always take pics of Larrivee labels since I think they are easily the most beautiful in the business.

Were they for sale, or just for show?  Those 50th Anniversary guitars are quite exquisite.  Jean does sign his special models, my 40th Anniversary is signed too.
Plus I picked it up from the masters hands in Oxnard.  He was quite proud of it.  Spent half a day there with Jean, Matt, and Wendy back in 2008.
Just great folks.

Everything at the show was for sale.  If I recall correctly, the 50th guitar was priced at over $6000.   It had an insane amount of inlay down the fretboard: not quite Celtic but more of a Viking design.  A true work of art.  I'm hoping to make it to the big Amigo Guitar Show in Arlington in October.  There are usually a lot more acoustics at that show.  The Dallas show is more of a Les Paul / Strat love-fest.  In fact, as I was walking around seeing an insane amount of LPs and Strats, I kept wondering how a person could possibly decide on one if he was in the market.  Jimmy Wallace, the fellow who puts on the show, also has a guitar shop.  His booth alone probably had hundreds of Les Pauls - everything from vintage to modern.

Both of these headstocks are works of art.  Did Wendy do them?

Wendy has always done all the headstock designs.  Amazing precision artwork.

I can personally attest to that statement!

Went to the big Dallas show again this year.  I bet there were over 50,000 guitars in the hall, and I only spotted two lonesome Larrivees.  I'm always on the lookout for them and love to see them in the wild.  Great show, as usual!
