Title: Strap and button question
Post by: czgunner on October 12, 2021, 12:06:41 AM
I ordered this strap and strap button:
https://www.larrivee.com/shop/levys-2-cotton-strap-suede-ebds
https://www.larrivee.com/shop/srap-button-chrome
And I finally worked up the courage to drill a hole in my new D-40. All went well and I got it installed.
I attempted to put the strap on and the sued is quite thick. The strap went over the new upper button, but the end pin button doesn't seem to allow the strap to completely sit into the groove.
Should I force the leather down or do I need to get a new end pin button? I'm worried if I force the leather into the groove I won't be able to get it off again.
Thanks!

Here is one of my Larrivees with extra strap pin installed near the jack.
Oh, and I use strap locks as well.

My experience is that new straps (like new shoes) loosen up after going on and off a couple or few times.

Just got the strap locks I ordered and the end pin is in a threaded insert. I guess I have to drill another hole.
I have tried all 3 straps and none will go one this end pin strap button. Bizarre, I'm not sure what the point of this is?
Not sire the best location, I marked two possible places. Any thoughts?

DO NOT DRILL ANOTHER HOLE!!!

I have modified the straps rather than adding another (or different) strap button to the guitar.

I take a pair of wire cutters (the ones I use to trim off excess string when changing the strings) and trim off some of the leather to make the strap hole bigger. Trim some off, then try to fit it back on the guitar again. Do this until you can get it over the larger endpin, but it's still snug enough to stay on. It will take a little snipping and cutting to make the hole in the strap large enough to work.

Here's a pic of one of my Larrivee straps with the back hole enlarged a bit to fit over "plug in" strap buttons.
