Post by: unclrob on April 01, 2021, 12:30:06 AM
Me except for all the old man pains I'm alive and well and living in NJ.I haven't had my shot but I don't go out much, maybe 15 time's in the last year.I do wear a mask when I do.For the first quitar of the year I a whopping $25 in buz but things are looking up and I'm teaching someone to take over when I can no longer do what I do,he can take over in 20-30 years.

It's a cold Michigan morning but the forecast indicates we're in for a week of above normal temperatures beginning this weekend. I've had the bike out a few times already.
I've now had both jabs.
After a year of living like a shut-in, I'm ready to bust out of here.
I even lined up an outdoor gig for early June.
At long last the fog appears to be lifting on our world.

Mild cases, I hope, not requiring hospitalization.
That's what they call the "breakthrough".
Only 95% effective.

Not sure.  Time will tell I suppose.  All the data are not in yet.

Where?  Sources?

Sorry. I don't believe it without verifiable evidence.

I hope you're staying healthy.

Oh yeah. It is not only statistically possible but they're seeing it play out now. You will recall that both Moderna and Pfizer testing showed they were both about 95% effective. Well, that leaves around 5% on the table; right?
It's like the 'reverse lottery ticket'. You know, statistically those tickets are losers, but in fact a few people hit the jackpot.
(from the Washington State Dept of Health)
(https://www.doh.wa.gov/Newsroom/Articles/ID/2720/Cases-of-COVID-19-vaccine-breakthrough-confirmed-in-Washington-state)Cases of COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough confirmed in Washington state
OLYMPIA --

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is investigating reports of people in the state who tested positive for COVID-19 more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated. Scientists call these "vaccine breakthrough" cases, which are expected with any vaccine.

Large-scale clinical studies found that COVID-19 vaccines reduced the risk of getting COVID-19 in vaccinated people by up to 95% compared to people that did not receive the vaccine. However, the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infection. This means a small percentage of fully vaccinated people can be expected to still get COVID-19. These are identified as breakthrough cases.

Out of one million fully vaccinated individuals in Washington state, epidemiologists report evidence of 102 breakthrough cases since February 1, 2021, which represents .01 percent of vaccinated people in Washington. Breakthrough cases have been identified in 18 counties. The majority of those in Washington state with confirmed vaccine breakthrough experienced only mild symptoms, if any. However, since February 1, eight people with vaccine breakthrough have been hospitalized. DOH is investigating two potential vaccine breakthrough cases where the patients died. Both patients were more than 80 years old and suffered underlying health issues. Further investigation will help to identify patterns among people who have COVID-19 after vaccination, such as if a virus variant may have caused the infection.

Hey Rob, as a former New Yorker you must remember those March and April days when the temperatures would bounce all over the place. But yeah, that's not supposed to happen quite so much in north Florida; right?
Foiled by statistics again!
Not to worry, Rob. In 30 days you'll be running that AC 24/7.
Enjoy!  :bgrin:

I've taken more than a bunch of courses over the past six months. Most of them were about music or business or self-improvement. I'm glad I did them, and as valuable, inspirational, educational as they were, most of them were demanding work.

I nuked my Netflix subscription several months ago (just no time to watch). I do nothing social online except for hanging out here and the Kemper Profiler Forum (https://www.kemper-amps.com/forum/). I turned off Facebook and Instagram and whatever else shortly after the pandemic hit. It was too easy to lose the day doom-scrolling. I tune in to the news at a couple of set times during the day instead of catching reflections of it intruding unbidden throughout the day.

For a break, I signed up for Master Class (https://www.masterclass.com/) a few days ago.

These are the courses I've done so far.

Carlos Santana Teaches the Art and Soul of Guitar (https://www.masterclass.com/classes/carlos-santana-teaches-the-art-and-soul-of-guitar)
Tom Morello Teaches Electric Guitar | Atlas Underground, Rage Against The Machine (https://www.masterclass.com/classes/tom-morello-teaches-electric-guitar)
St. Vincent Teaches Creativity and Songwriting (https://www.masterclass.com/classes/st-vincent-teaches-creativity-and-songwriting)
Usher Teaches the Art of Performance (https://www.masterclass.com/classes/usher-teaches-the-art-of-performance)
Sheila E Teaches Drumming and Percussion (https://www.masterclass.com/classes/sheila-e-teaches-drumming-and-percussion)

None of these courses will teach you how to do what these people do, but you'll get some deep insights into how they do it. It's like being in a room with them chatting for several hours.

The Santana course was enjoyable and fun, and I'm happy I spent the time.

I wasn't familiar with Tom Morello, St. Vincent, Usher or Sheila E. None of them were on my personal play-list. However, it's been inspiring, challenging, and soul-soothing to hear and see them talk about what they do.

Here's a link to a reasonable review of Master Class (https://ideapod.com/masterclass-review-are-their-online-classes-worth-your-money).

Master Class is not cheap, but it's been way better value than anything I've seen on Netflix.

I've taken on an apprentice.First time I ment him he was 13,20 years later started do repairs for him about 4 years ago. He's been buying, selling and trading and one I asked him if he'd like to learn how to do what I do and he said yes.

Been trading work for work around the house that I can't do anymore,so far I'm doing a pu install for the repair on a generator.Working on a deal to have some wood on an outside wall replaced.

Waiting on a friend to come by so we can nail up a wall in "The Shed".

Waiting for a report from my doc on if I can take the vaccine since I'm allergic  to the flu shot.

Hello to Uncle Rob and everyone else.
All is ginger peachy here in New Zealand.
We had a couple of brief lockdowns, but our Government quickly chased down the virus spreaders, who went into home isolation for a couple of weeks, and life has carried on as as usual for every one else  here.
Sorry to make you jealous, but I have recently been to a Bluegrass Festival, a Folk Festival, and I am off to a Trad Folk Festival in a weeks time. Just New Zealand artists, but that is fine.
Looking forward to getting my virus shot, and hoping this is the beginning of the end of the pandemic for all of us.

Twenty-seven years ago, I would routinely say something about

Fixed number of heartbeats in a lifetime

Not willing to waste any of those running around in circles

If you're still thinking that way, check out Does exercise use up too many heartbeats? (https://omrf.org/2011/07/26/exercise-heartbeats/)

Or skip that and consider "You don't die because you run out of heartbeats – you run out of heartbeats because you die."

My doctor tells me, I'm healthier today than I was twenty-seven years ago.  I attribute that to walking about 16.1 kilometres (10 miles) every day (coming up on two years now). Actually, he said that to me after I had been walking for a year.

Here's the view at one end of the path a couple of days ago (https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtVCbZ9HPRJ2pIxUQESuHTUetlK_7Q).
