Title: Flatlander House fire.
Post by: flatlander on January 27, 2020, 12:56:21 AM
My house burned down and quick. I'm ok. Best friend Mark ok. back to the gore in a minute but let me first say at beginning of post that if you guys want to do me a favor, keep eyes open for a Pete Anderson om. If you see one please PM me so I will get email as I won't be having a ton of time to get on here. I loved Pete and he liked to write songs. OK. We were lucky. The fire was electrical in nature. Started between walls and could have just as easily started in the middle of the night but I had luckily gotten up just 5 minutes earlier. Coffee on but not done yet. So I was awake when detector went off and quickly saw the danger. Had just enough time to wake Mark up, mess with fire for about a minute before black smoke started pouring and we had to get the hell out. The smoke was so thick couldn't get to music room, but Mark ran around house and busted the door down and was able to get  guitar and mandolin that he made himself, My new Martin 000-18 and my custom Larrivee dread. D-40. Most instruments were upstairs in spare bed room with solid wood door and dead bolt for "safe keeping". Gone. 1980 L-10 that I bought new. Pete Anderson OM, custom Wiildwood parlor, Italian Spruce over Mahogany, 000-60, 2 Nationals including rare spider bridge. (smith and young, only 80 total made and about 20 round neck woodies like mine, American Telecaster B-Bender, Epiphone Sheriton with classic 57 pick-ups, Weber F-5 style mandolin. Nice Hofner bass, hand made uke, Baldwin piano, all harmonicas. That's about 18 models, I won't get into recording equipment and mics. But my heads ok. People of the town have been outstanding. Going to be living on the water of our beautiful seaside town for time being. People have been helpful in so many ways. All I have time for but if you'dkeepeye out for Pete Anderson I would appreciate it. I have already PM'd the fellow who has one listed here from back in November. in next replly I'll put link to my face book page if you want to see more pics of house, instrument remains etc. Scroll down a bit and you'll see pic of devastation to interior of house. Instrument remains and such. Fire happened a week ago Saturday. Thanks, matt

Matt,

You've been an inspiration through this.  This is the second of your nine lives.  I swear someone is watching over you.  If I ever need to learn how to endure, persevere and rise above my circumstances, I'm coming to talk to you.  You've got more to teach than just thirds and beyond.

Let us know what else you need, because you know we'll be here for you.

Cathi

Hard to find words to express enough empathy. Much easier to say how glad we are that you are alive and well.

Matt,  First, happy that you were not injured.  Second, this is one of the saddest stories I've heard that didn't involve someone actually dying.  Sent chills down my spine.  We narrowly avoided a similar tragedy last month.  A freak combination of circumstances involving the sun coming through a small bathroom mirror, reflecting off of my wife's makeup mirror and focusing on a wicker basket full of tissue.  Our house was full of smoke when we arrived after being out with friends for a few hours.  The first thing I did was rush upstairs where the smoke was coming from... the room adjacent to my music room with 9 guitars including 4 Larrivees.   Caught it before flames actually erupted.  Can't imagine what it must be like to lose your home and such a fine collection of guitars such as yours. I'll have you in my prayers.

Now that is a freak accident! Glad it didn't get worse.

A bit of good news. A Pete Anderson OM is in the process of heading from west coast to east. It looks in great shape and hasn't been played a ton. Yeah!  :nana_guitar
