Title: Larrivée T-40 "Travel" as Terz
Post by: skyline on January 17, 2020, 03:48:37 PM
Has anyone played a T-40 (https://www.larrivee.com/products/t-40) tuned up to "terz" ie - G C F A# D G?

At 22.8" the scale length may be a bit long, but with extra-lights it would still seem to be within reasonable tensions?

or who has had a chance to play one?

these strings were posted earlier, but since then . . . ye olde proverbial crickets . . .

Is the T-40 an Arthurian Questing Beast?

Has no-one played one?

Has anyone played a T-40?  Doesn't look like it.

Been looking for a place that has one in stock, but have yet to find one anywhere round the midwest USA.  Ordered a left-handed T-40RE back in May 2019.

Unfortunately, I no longer have a local shop that carries Larrivee.  Doing searches, it seems to be tough to find any shops that have them in stock.  It's no wonder not many have tried them.

I'd love to try one.

I just bought one and it's an absolutely marvelous instrument to play. 22.8 in scale, top-notch construction, truly lovely tone.

I've messed around with alternate tunings on a similar scale guitar, and with extra-light strings, it worked out fine without feeling too tight. A buddy of mine tuned up to G once, and the tone was surprisingly sweet, so I'd say it's worth a shot.
If you're into experimenting with stuff like this or just want to learn new tricks, I've found https://www.artmaster.com pretty handy for getting fresh ideas.

The T-40 or T-44 is not meant to be a Terz guitar, Larrivee designed it to be played in standard tuning.  Terrific little guitar with big, albeit not bassy, sound, great even for strumming and great of course for finger style.  Scale length combined with 1 3/4 nut width gives you adequate room to play with no problem.
