Got a minor concern that's been bugging me a while and it occurred to me some forum members might have some ideas or guidance. My D35S has a tuner on the B string that's button has been slipping for a long time (I'm embarrassed to say). The buttons appear to me to be press fit (i.e., no locking screw to hold them to the post).
As you can see from the picture, the button is slipping on the post. It has never threatened to come off entirely. Otherwise all the old Grover slot style tuners still function great after 47 or so years and I don't want to start replacing original parts. I'm thinking it's probably a pretty simple fix. I had even thought about shooting a little glue into the button with a syringe, then taping it in place while the bond sets.
Have any of you ever had the need to make this kind of repair?
Thanks,
LK
It would best to call but,,,you'll need to remove the tuner from the guitar,if its been pressed on take a soldering pen put on the stem of the tuner and press down on the button. The heat will soften the plastic enough to solid up the contact of the button and the stem.If it solids up your done.As always you can call me my number is on my website thats in posted in my sign..
thanks Rob...
Happy to help, let me know if it works. If it doesn't call me there may be another option.
I'm having the same trouble with my D35S with the cover falling off while changing the string. So far, I've just held it on until it's in tune. It doesn't slip as of yet...
old folky,
Didn't realize there was another "S" owner on the forum. Have you posted pics, or recordings?
Would love to hear/seem them if you have.
Just re-strung late last week (trying out some GHS Silk & Phosphor lights for the first time, so far very nice...), so I won't be trying Rob's suggested repair until the next change most likely. I'll keep you guys update when I do...
Yep, I'm another proud owner of one. Mine came from "Mannys Music" in New York back in 1974. I paid around $460 for it back then. Wish Id had the money and know what I know now, I'd a bought a bunch of them. Ha Ha. I had a matching new 1977 12 string, but sold it quite a few years ago. Back in August 2015, I put a bid in on Ebay for a Larrivee SD50tsb and won. They both fit in either guitar case. I believe it supposed to be a copy of the Martin. I use Martin bronze 80/20 mediums on both. Haven't posted anything but I need to learn how someday...
