Title: Difference between D-40 and D-05

Apart from design, how much difference is there between D-40 and D-05 in terms of tone, quality, etc. I'm wondering which one to acquire tho i'm leaning a little to D-05 just because it's been around for a long while. Appreciate some thoughts on this.

To start off, the D-40 has the newer hybrid bracing and the D-05 has traditional Larrivee bracing. I haven't played either but my guess would be that the D-40 sounds more like a Martin with more bass (that's what the hybrid bracing was designed, in part, to do), than the D-05. You will have to play both to see which one you like better.

I wouldn't expect any differences in quality, between the two. Tone, probably. As is usual, the best thing to do, is try to get your hands on both.

Very similar, I'd think. I have a D-05. Wonderful dread. True "cannon". Having played both, I'd say the D-05 is more Larrivée if that makes any sense.

Or maybe the difference is a D-35? :winkin:
