Title: Unusal looking Larrivee
Post by: mattwood on November 05, 2017, 12:32:14 PM
at GC.  Appears to have an aftermarket mod unless Larrivee does this upon request.  Kind of like an Avian cutaway.

Not something that I'd care for. To each their own I suppose.

Looks like it has a port cut into the waist.

That's a lot of work that could have been avoided with a cutaway.

Looks like retrofit...  along with what looks like a port on the side.

I've had guitars I'd have no problem modding...  but not a Larrivee.  But, once it's yours, you can do with it what you want....

Funny thing...  a few (or several) years ago, a guitar turned up on eBay (or some other site)...  a McCollum (Lance McCollum, a west coast builder) that some fellow had "fixed" a scratched top by coating the whole top with epoxy  resin.  It was a total kluge...  what the he## was the guy thinking type thing...  but I have no doubts he thought he was doing the right thing.

I was torn between "what the heck dude" and well, it's his.  He can do to it what he wants.  I agree... Not Me, but at the same time, It's Not Mine.

So, this fine unique instrument appears to be at the Pasadena Guitar center.

We must have a member in the LA basin who can go over and take a look.

Could have been done to work around a nasty bit of damage. I can't really see the point in building it that way. Odd but OK.

I guess I'll be the contrarian butthead that actually likes it. It looks well done, the guy even kept the binding on the top cutout which probably wasn't easy.

I guess some of you guys don't play with a capo up high. Sometimes you just really need to hit a few notes up there without the body in the way. Of course if you want a cutaway, you buy one, but maybe that's just what the guy did after selling this one?

:donut2 :coffee :donut

Edit: Oops, wrong, no binding . . .

I guess I fail to see the point.
