Title: Which Polish?
Post by: Skip Ellis on July 28, 2017, 10:12:14 AM
What polish/cleaner do you use on your satin finish? Is good ol' Dunlop 65 OK for my 000-40r?

On a satin finish I use a damp rag for cleaning. For gloss finish I use a car polish mostly MacGuire's #7.

Polish? I dunno. I'd take this one.  Magdalena Mielcarz.

I married one of them. I call her my mona "linda".  34 years ago, and running.

Ooops, sorry for the hijack.

Um ... I don't know and I guess I wouldn't much care if she did or not.   :laughin:

I've never "polished" a satin finish. I do have an old bottle of Martin guitar polish that I use as a cleaner.
Sometimes I use silicone free lemon oil polish and then buff it off with a soft cloth.
I like the scent left over. But it does need to be wiped down well. Oil residue on any surface just makes a mess later.

But "Murphy Oil Soap" diluted well with water has always been an old favorite of mine for cleaning all wood guitars and furniture.

Damp cloth -- or if it is really dirty Dunlop 65 does a good job without creating any shine.

I don't have a satin finish Larrivée, but have other satin finish instruments.  I use Stew Mac Preservation polish on everything except my fiddle (I use only a damp rag, at best, on it).  Of course, damp rag is my first go-to for any spit or sweat spots immediately after gigs.
