I read a similar thread on the Gibson forum. But I understand that some of you've been around alot of guitars over the years, so "one or two, or some of the" best sounding acoustic guitars you've played would be:[/font]
And also, I've played a guitar one day and it sounds so nice, and the next day the same guitar sound mediocre.....so that's a consideration, I know.
One time I played a Gibson J200 (elite!) that I wish to this day I'd have snatched up....and I haggled over $300 diff in price, and they wouldn't come down....but that guitar was a dream!
I can think of a few off the top of my head.
The first would be a 63 Gibson J-50 I played a few months ago. Almost every inch of the top was covered in finish cracks, there were 2 cigarette burns on the side, and the headstock had a decent sized chunk of wood missing. It was by far the best sounding acoustic I've heard for rhythm playing. It was priced a little high for the condition so I had to walk away.
Another would be the Lowden 025 I used to own. Exactly the sound I look for in a fingerstyle guitar. It was very tempermental though. One day it sounded like the best guitar in the world, the next it sounded average. Sold it on one of it's average days.
I own all but one.A D'Angelico archtop I don't recall what modal{mental block} it was from the early 50's.I would have givin all most anything for it but the guy already had a wife and kid's.
I never really have a loveit/hate it relation with a guitar.I'm luckier then most as if I find something I can't live without I buy it.It's a problem I can't control :( :)
1981 Alvarez Yairi DY-52 Spruce/Walnut dread. It's a sweetheart of a guitar. They're still using that model number, but it is a much different guitar.

there was a particular Taylor 314 at Guitar Center that blew me away. it had some shop wear and i didn't want to pay full price for it. i let my pride get in the way. i really wish i had that guitar. it was the best feeling/playing/sounding i've ever came across.
I have owned around 70 or 80 acoustics in the last 28 years......the two best sounding ones are the ones that I have kept.....a Tacoma DR-38 and a DR-20......they both have their own voice...the 38 has a huge low end and smoothed out midrange and treble and the 20 has a very responsive, brighter sound that makes it an excellent fingerstyle guitar......their new bracing system really works. There are, however, some problems that have arisend with them (I had to have a neck reset on the 20 and the 38 had some frets that were lifting.....not normal as they are both 2001 models) I am hoping that once I get them straightened out, they will be fine. I have them both outfitted with Grover gold 18:1 tuners and Baggs active I-beam pickups.....sound and performance wise, I don't think I could do any better at any price.......
