Greetings again.
I'm curious what you folks think about how string gauge effects tone on a resonator, specifically a wood body single cone biscuit bridge.
I'm looking for the warmest, least hong/twang tone and curious what string gauge you'd recommend.
Thanks!
David
I've always like flatwound's.I have found that 80/20 and phos'ers to brittle for my ears. Then again I prefer nickle/silver on the mando too.
what brand flat wounds you use Rob?
I use to use Dean Markley but I don't think there making them anymore,so I'd go with D'Addario.I'm not a fan of Thomskin's.I'm not sure else syill make's them.
Let me preface that I am not extremely experienced with reso's. Just the 2 I've had for a couple years. But as far as just gauge, not type of string, seems to me thicker is warmer. Louder, more tension for cleaner sounding slide, but seems warmer as well. I'd say you just need to go thru a pack or 3 of strings, or at least a few individual strings, and see what you and your guitar like.
