Title: Made a stomp box this afternoon.
Post by: headsup on January 21, 2015, 07:56:26 PM
You know the kind that adds a big thump to your sound through a PA?

I had a very old Barcus Berry pick-up (remember those?) kicking around. (pic 1)

found some scraps of wood (pic2)

a couple screws and a dab of white glue, then drilled the hole for the jack. (pic3)

tested the unit, before putting on the base plate (pic4)

cost nothing to build, took an hour of my life.

thump thump thump ba da BOOM!

Great idea Kevin. One of my guitars has a soundboard pu I'm not real pleased with, and now you gave me an idea what to do with it. May even build one of them box thingies,,,uh, is it a cajon? To use what you have there a guy would almost have to be sitting. Not my style yet, but things could change. Thanks

tiny update,
it's not the hottest signal on the planet, (no pre) so I'm now running through a small battery powered pre amp to boost the signal, and yes it's for sit down gigs.

Another thing I've seen, is to have a tamborine leaning on it, for a little extra Jingle....

I took this to a gig last night, and with a nice pre-amp, with all the bass up, treble down, and a tamborine leaning on it, sitting down, I managed to have a real nice low end kick drum thump happening with my foot on some songs .
a great way to keep solid foot rhythm going, sometimes on the off beat etc.

best no money, short time investment i ever made.
really, all you handy man guys out there, set your self up!
