Title: anyone here ever heard of a Lys guitar?
Post by: dr.underhill on May 11, 2012, 01:14:03 AM
i bought a dreadnaught Lys new in the mid-80s. it had a birch body, spruce top, and an unusual 3 point (like a crown) headstock. it was made in Canada and was very similar to current Seagull guitars. i have never seen another one. wondered if anyone here ever saw, or had a chance to play one.

The Lys guitars we're made in La Patrie, Quebec by Claude Boucher(Boucher Guitars) and Normand Boucher(Norman Guitars) and Robert Godin was the distributor and after the death of Normand Boucher, Godin took over and the name of the company changed a couple of times to become LASIDO(Norman, La Patrie, Godin,Simon & Patrick, Seagull, Art & Lutherie).
Lys Guitars changed name to become the Seagull Guitars. Normand Boucher also had another brand called Kamouraska Guitars and are very rare to find, now there are called La Patrie Guitars, i see one come up on KIJIJI from time to time.
Your headstock is not a crown but the top of the the Fleur the Lys.  Here's a link in french:http://pages.usherbrooke.ca/dlaroche/Lys/Lys

Hope this help

thanks for the info Pierre. i actually had a kamouraska classical back in the late 90's. i knew it too was Canadian, but had no idea it was also part of that same manufactoring group. i kept the kamouraska for about 3 years and ended up trading it for a takamine c132 classical.
one thing for sure, our friends in canada can certainly craft a fine instrument.
