Title: Premier League Football
Post by: bearsville0 on May 06, 2012, 10:02:59 AM
Anybody else here rooting for Manchester City to win the league this year. I'm a Tottenham fan, but every year it's Anybody-But-Man-Utd.

And thank god Chelsea beat Barcelona to get the European Cup Final . They are my team of the year.

Arsenal fan here so I'm very excited about the signing of Podolski.  other than that, good second half of the campaign. and yeah, as usual, anybody but Man U!!!

I don't have TV anymore so I don't follow as close as I used to.  I miss it sometimes.

Well Arsenal lucked out today with Spurs drawing at Aston Villa. I'd be exited about Podolski coming to town as well. If Spurs don't make the champions league next year, I expect their best players to jump ship.

I don't have TV either and read the play by plays in The Guardian.

I know it's called football but I love watching soccer.  Well, I love watching my kids play soccer that is!  I've got a whole summer of it about to start, two or three nights a week until August.  We don't follow any of the players or teams or anything but we'll probably watch some of the Euro Cup.

The Euro cup is often considered a stronger tournament than the World Cup, with fewer teams to start out, and an across the board high level of soccer.  My son is planning to be here in town so we can watch it together.  Nice!

Oh, Soccer. Something to do with men in shorts always pretending to be gravely injured after being looked at askance. There's hockey playoffs on for crying out loud!

Here in Colorado Springs, I only pick up over-the-air digital TV - too cheap to pay for cable or satellite - but we get plenty of the pro league from Mexico.  To me, it's a faster version than whatever Everton, Man-U and whatnot play, at least it appears that way to my eye.

What I really enjoy watching, however, is Australian 'Footy'.  We get delayed games on one of the public TV digital sub-channels.  I think what we see is a few days or perhaps even a week delayed.

I think I even understand the rules a little bit.

Nah, you're just a bitter Spurs (aka Tottenham) fan. Man Utd don't win every year - maybe every other yr
I'm certainly hoping for Man City to falter to QPR for 2 reasons - 1) don't think they deserve to win the title; 2) unethical sacking of Mark Hughes despite a good job he has done. What makes football (this is the game where players use their feet to kick the ball unlike the other 'football' where players run with their legs, throw with their arms!!) beautiful and exciting is that it carries unpredictable element.  The ball is "round" as they always say.
Spurs got distracted because Harry Redknapp was rumored to take over England job but reality is the board must invest a bit more to challenge for trophies.
I'm Arsenal & Man Utd fan. Arsenal is picking up the pieces but i believe they'll fare better if they get good players in; Man Utd... what can I say? They've been good but if they lose this season's title - it's their fault. I attribute it to their lapse of concentration at Everton and 1st encounter with Blackburn when Rooney was suspended by Ferguson for breaking club curfew rules.
Yes, Chelsea is a great-comback team of the year. I think they'll beat Bayern Munich due to sheer determination.
At the end of the day, whichever team wins.. so long as it is no Man City, I am ok. But if Man City wins, life goes on.....  :guitar

It's too easy to be a Man U fan (like being a Yankee fan) and I wonder why the championship doesn't circulate around more often with teams other than Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool winning it all the time. Spurs haven't won since 1962. How could they be so consistently mediocre?  I guess at the end of the day there are very few club owners (like the Steinbrenners) who are greedy or hungry enough to want it. I suspect the the rest of the league owners are just content to have a hobby. But the poor fans....

CITY!
OMG, that (2nd half) was the best 50 minutes of soccer I have ever seen (at least for drama and pathos).  I will sit and watch it again later.

Manchester City wins the EPL in the most dramatic of fashions, and rips the heart from the United supporters.

Man Utd will be kicking themselves for they have essentially gifted the premiership to City in the few weeks.

Did you see the looks on those City fans five minutes from the end when it looked like it was all over for them. Boy, was that a fun way to end the season or what. Unbelievable.

I like AFL too. Not absolutely up on all the rules, but you have to admire the athleticism and the little guys can still play and compete.

There is a lot of ale being consumed in Manchester today/tonight.

The City supporters in total estatic joy. :cheers

The United supporters to drown their bitter sorrows.   :crying: :crying: :crying:

That last minute Aguero goal was the most exciting thing in sports I have seen on TV since Bill Buckner let the ball roll through his legs in Game 6 of the Mets-Red Sox 1986 World Series.

The camera angles on the City fans during the game captured the incredible ups and downs and eventual UP's that give us a better idea of the total passion that most of the world's sports fans give to their soccer.

Yeah, and one of the ups meant sticking it to Fergie. He couldn't even find the grace to congratulate Mancini without a sly poke at how many more times he has won it "It will take a century to do what we've done"
