Title: New guitar déjà vu
Post by: Danny on April 10, 2012, 12:04:42 AM
After a almost one year I got my Taylor shortscale GC4 back today. It has been played very little and still smells and looks brand new.

Tonight I played it as much as I possibly could. Fingers are hurting, but it was fun. We have a lot of furniture moved out of the "great room" and it is tiled so the acoustics bounce around and come back at you. I was playing and singing my heart out. Had a good time and ended with "For my Lady".

She says it's a nice sounding guitar. :thumbsup

Congrats and its sounds like your finger tip is doing better too.

The finger stops me from fretting certain chords or strings totally, but I play around that or play something different. I hope it heals in time, so that pressing down doesn't send a shock up my hand.

Please remind me where this was for a year.
Sold to someone else?
Or out for repair?

I had traded it to a customer of mine and we traded back, The trade deal was with the 1939 Martin. He wanted the Martin back and I needed the shortscale and small body, so it was a good fit.
I think it was one of those, "Sometimes you don't know what you've got till its gone" deals.

Ah, I see. Sort of like grown kids these days, I guess.
Or more like an old friend, welcoming back home again.
Nice.

My youngest son just moved out a month or so ago now. I have to say I really miss him being around. He plays guitar in a very sweet finger style and is always developing.
This GC4 and I bonded the day I got it in January of 2011, but having the F-IV etc. it got little play time and I traded it off. Now I have a chance to enjoy it for a while again. Who knows how long.

Congrats Dan, sounds like a keeper afterall, huh? Tell me, what was wrong with a '39 Martin?

Oh yeah, glad you had a wonderful time.

Mostly the arch top on the Martin pushed my shoulder out way too far.
And I preferred my OM 21 in sound.

I hear ya.

I sold my HD-28 recently because of the size and the weight but now I'm gassing for a 2012 D-18. Need to stay away from these Forums.

Yes, the OM-21 is a lovely guitar, hoe do you find that compare to your Taylor?

The Martin has a deeper, Fuller tone, but the Taylor is short scale and virtually a new guitar, and the Martin is 19 years old now. Well played in.

The GCs without the slothead are pretty appealing to me. I used to own a GC3 and it was the kind of guitar which, while not being my number one, was the sort of guitar that I just wanted to pick and play a lot. It sounded good and felt fantastic. I can understand your pleasure in getting the 4 back - I never should have sold my 3!
