Hello, all!
My next Larrivee will be either an L-03 or L-03R, and I would really, truly love some sound clips to help me decide.
I know this forum has sound clips, but I'm needing to hear the guitars strummed, with just a small bit of flatpicking. I'm primarily a strummer, and 95 percent of the videos/clips I've found are fingerpicking. The strumming ones I have found aren't very good quality.
And I would love to A/B these myself, but living in Oklahoma City doesn't provide me with that opportunity. Even though our Guitar Center has a PlatRoom, they're not currently carrying Larrivees.
If anyone could point me to some strumming clips, or even good-quality video, I'd appreciate it.
And if you're kind enough, and brave enough!, to record clips for me, I shall shower you with donuts!
Please, and thank you. Cheers!
I have an L-03 :nice guitar: and I'll make a quick video for you, if you'd like. I only have a Flip camera, which isn't that great at capturing the sound, but if you want me to do it, I will. It won't be anything spectacular, as I'm not the best player.
I may try to help as well. Any preference of a song you would like to hear strummed? I've got an L-03re

That would be awesome of the both of you. And no particular song, just strumming. Even if it's something you make up on the spot, or an old Dylan song -- whatever! If you could play some chords up the neck as well, like barres, that'd be helpful, too.
Thanks to you both. Very awesome of you to help me out like this.
I called the closest Larrivee dealer to me, about 2 hours away. They only have an OM-03 and OM-09 in stock :/ So no dice there!
I just did a little clip for you. Some cowboy chords, stuff up the neck, some jazzy chords and stuff with and without a pick. Not the best sound quality since my Flip is just meh, but hopefully it helps.
I love the L-03 and played it against the D-03 and OM-03 and definitely like the L-03 the best. To me it sounds like a brighter and less boomy Dreadnaught. Let me upload the video to YouTube and I'll be back.
I agree with lefty on the sound. I know everywhere I go with mine everyone always compliments on the sound and how well the sound is.
Here ya go, sloppy playing and all. My cell phone goes off part way through, sorry. I never really play up the neck on acoustics, but since I did for this video, it made me realize I need to adjust the action a little bit too. It's a little high past the fifth fret.

Blake: Thanks so much man, it really helps out. And the sound wasn't bad at all. I'm surprised what those little Flips can do sometimes. I'm a journalist and I have some reporter buddies who use them with no complaints.
It sounds good. Balanced but organic, much like my OM.

I have three Yamahas with rosewood backs and sides, but Yamahas sound completely different than Larrivees. Larrivee and crew do special things with their woods, and that's why I don't want to trick myself into thinking, "Oh, a rosewood L will sound X way because of my experience with X brands." Ya know?
Eventually I'll also have a D series Larrivee. And I'm not going to lie, I like boominess, but what was heard in Blakes video sounds good to me on the boom scale. The balance really helps it out.
Can anyone else provide clips or hog and rosewood L's?
And for those interested in a good D-03/D-03R comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--EoyHDhj74
Even for the D, the hog just sounds better to me.
Glad the video helped. Did I read that right, that you already have an OM-03? When I tried the two side by side, I didn't feel a whole lot of difference between the too, except that the L was a bit more Dread like. My L-03 has Sapele back and sides, BTW. I played a right handed L-03R next to the L-03 I have now and I honestly preferred the sound of mine versus the rosewood.
A while back i put medium strings on my L-03r and really sounded like it brought out some volume in it. I really liked the sound of it. I changed them out but I may go back to them at some point.

Yeah, I have an OM-03 with hog back and sides and Italian Spruce top.
When you say the OM compared to the L didn't feel too different, do you literally mean the physical feel of it; or are you also referring to the sound/volume?
Also, what strings were you using for the video?

I use mediums on all but two of my acoustics. They do add volume, for sure. I like them quite a bit.

Nice playing. I remember seeing that YouTube video while searching for sound clips.
Do you have any recordings that involve mostly strumming, even with your fingers?

I was referring mainly to the sound. The necks felt the same to me but the body obviously didn't.
The strings are D'Adarrio phosphor bronze and I think they are 12s.

How about volume difference? Surely the L is louder!
At least I hope so :doh
The L was a bit louder, yeah.

Indeed.
Can anyone else supply some strumming clips?
And thanks again to those who posted links! Cheers.
Sorry i haven't yet. I have been meaning to but just been busy and tied up.

No worries!
I have the L-03 mahogany. It is a good strummer. I don't know how it compares with a L-03R but the sound is pretty close to the Om-03R
Here is a song I played on it...
