Title: NGD, 000-50!!
Post by: wishbone on February 03, 2012, 10:12:51 PM
Hey guys and gals, new member here and i just got my first Larrivee, a 000-50 as the title says. I picked it up from one of the members here, Mr. Ward from New York. I hope its ok to mention who i got it from. I got a lot of great info here on the forum that really helped with my decision so thank you all. I never had the chance to play a Larrivee but when i read about the 000-50 it really peeked my interest being a 12 fret slothead and mahogany back and sides. I mainly play a telecaster and have never been excited about an acoustic instrument, that is until now. Ive played many Martin and Taylor guitars that my friends have had, mainly the rosewood dread variety, but none of them did much for me. I recognize these are fine instruments for a lot of people and wont knock em. Any how, do you know what its like to pick up an instrument and be inspired ? This is how i feel about the 000-50. My fingers are killing me from playing it and yet i cant seem to put it down. I finally understand what its like to play a quality acoustic instrument that speaks to me. I love the neck profile and nut width. Ive read some folks are a little put off by a 1/13/16 nut width, but for me, its fantastic. I know it wasn't easy for Mr. Ward to let it go, he told me it was a special piece and i fully agree. By the way, he is a gentleman, and when i first contacted him he didn't try to push anything, he just told me about the guitar and its condition and i appreciated that because i have had people try to "sell" me something before, which is a turn off for me. He even left a nice ibeam pickup in there too, how cool is that? I wish i was a little better at describing the tone for some that haven't had a chance to play one. I can say that it is gorgeous to look at, the neck feels great in my hand, and it really does project an even and balanced tone. I think its great for strumming, just dont beat on it like a tele, flat picking even better, and fingerpickin with a thumb pick is really something special. Ok, enough rambling, thank you Mr. Ward and thank you Larrivee forum members, i really couldnt be happier with this instrument. :bgrin:

Hello Wishbone, nice to hear of a well pleased Larrivee owner. Congratulations and welcome. I'd like to think there's a ooo-60 in my future, but there are so many to choose from!

Yep OOO-50's seem to be very popular this month. Wishbone I know what you mean about your hand killing you but I think the wider neck will be ok if given enough time to adjust. I find the spacing does lend itself to cleaner closed chords when playing fingerstyle. Mine is "so" new it hasn't even opened up yet, which I'm going to enjoy, and they are a beautiful guitar.    :welcome:
Thanks, Dave

or is it  :donut :donut :donut - 50's are popping up everywhere!

I had the opportunity to play Queequeg's.  Wonderful guitar with great sound and response.  I see what all the hub-bub is about.  And it has the one thing I wish all the 00's had... a slotted headstock.  Queequeg's is a tobacco sunburst.  Very nice!  Enjoy yours.

Hey thanks a lot for the warm welcome guys :bgrin: my fingers were hurting from the change of guitars not so much the wide fingerboard. Going from a tele with tens to a 000-50 with twelves will take some getting used to, but man i like the change. If any body has some suggestions on humidification i am all ears. Ive got the kyser sound hole humidifier and two small room humidifiers but its really hard to maintain above 30% in my apartment. Im in northern Colorado and its really dry here. Thanks again :thumb

Be careful to not overhumidify. It will diminish good tone and responsiveness.
