Title: Proper procedure
Post by: Ardon on December 03, 2011, 04:09:17 AM
Hi
I've ordered a guitar. Waited over three months. Paid in full.  Still have no information about the whereabouts (and maybe even existence) of ordered guitar. I've tried to contact my dealers head office, and was erroneously replied "can I pass this issue off to you?" a reply intended for a coworker...

I've emailed larrivee, twice... The second today after business hours.

Do I cancel, request refund and reorder from a different dealer?

Confused and frustrated

Assuming you've been accurate in describing what's happened so far, it looks like you've already exhausted "proper procedure" and it's time to get a bit more assertive.

In another thread, a couple of members suggested you call Larrivee customer service.  Did you do that?   Here is the number from their website: (805) 487-9980.  Just tell them what is (or is not) happening with your order and listen to what they have to say about it.  You just want a truthful answer about the status of your order from Larrivees point of view, correct?  Once you've determined the status from Larrivee, you can deduce what is going on from the dealer's end.  This will help you decide whether or not to cancel your order and request (demand, actually) a refund from the dealer.  If you decide it's prudent to cancel the order and the dealer resists, then I've got lots of ideas about what to do next, but I won't post them here at this point.

I can feel your frustration.

Ardon - how long was the expected wait for the guitar, just a couple of weeks? Is it a standard production model? Do you know whether it has already been shipped (I'm guessing you don't know)?

You contacted your dealer's head office. What is your dealer saying about this? They should be the one doing this legwork.

I have always found Larrivee Customer Service to be very helpful.  Just call the number listed above on Monday and I'm sure you'll find out the exact status of your order.

I'm just being nosy, but what did you order?

Thank you all for the responses

Brick 'n mortar store.
Dealer won't tell me anything... That's not entirely true... it was suppose to be in my possession "any day now" weeks ago. That's why I asked about its whereabouts and the runaround began... I don't mind waiting, but being kept in the dark, and feeling like I've been lied to does/has exhausted my patience.

Lsv 11e no cut
Paid cash not credit

I will call larrivee customer service Monday morning

But jimminy cricket! Why is it so difficult!
Sigh... Maybe I'm being a touch melodramatic

There's no melodrama here.  You are the customer and the customer is KING--at least in a free market economy

Why don't you give us the dealer's name and phone number and we will all call and harrass them.  JUST KIDDING!

Ardon,
Sounds like the dealer is not playing nice. See if you can get the dealer's order number or whatever proof that they've, in fact, ordered the guitar. If they start tap dancing show them your receipt and ask for your money back. If they refuse or can't give you proof of having ordered the guitar your next course of action is the legal system. They may have forgotten to order the guitar or they may have been using your cash for cash flow (rob Peter, pay Paul), etc. You have every right to demand satisfaction - GET IT!

Threaten to tell the forum who the dealer is. It has worked before, if memory serves me well.

Time to aprouch the dealer and demand your money back, even if he has shown you proof of order. There are a bunch of on line dealers out there who would be happy to help, and I a strong supporter of brick and mortor shop's but if there robbing Peter to pay paul then its time to close down and find something else to do.

I don't want to sound like a big A**whole but never give more then 25% deposite and I know that I have stated on this forum that I want stuff paid in full for specialty parts before I order it but I call my supplier while your there giving me the deposit.

Yeah, i should've kept the money until i received the guitar, but, well . . . cash sitting in an underwear drawer--shh don't tell any one about my safe--doesn't last all that long . . .

on a lighter note!

How did everyone here discover Larrivee guitars, the brand, a paticular model, whichever whatever...

I personally like to support north american made products, and stumbled across larrivee... some positive reviews... putz about with an L-09 (Lv-09?) liked the sound, heard about the LSV's wider fretboard, and been, um... waiting ever since :P

The full amount of money exchanges hands when the goods are handed over - period.

As you probably know by now, it's not a good behavior to pay cash in full when there is no good or service delivered at the same time.

Did the dealer demand the full cash payment in order to place the order?  As others have suggested, demand to see the proof of order AND call Larrivee customer service.  Before calling a lawyer, I would actually mention the police to the shop as well.

They've used your money long enough.  I agree with unclrob, you deserve to be treated better than this.

I know there is several LSV-11's that are slated to ship in the next week. We've just completed a run of them. PM me here with the dealer name and I'll make sure you get the status right away.

And that right there is why many of us continue to buy, play, and support Larrivee guitars.   Somebody with a name that also appears on the headstock is going to get it taken care of for you.   It may already be on it's way.

There may have been a mistake made somewhere along the chain from your deposit to the shipping of your guitar;   Those things happen sometimes despite good intentions by all concerned.    But you'll be getting a very nice guitar soon.  I've only seen one in person;   Dependan's LSV-11 which I  couldn't play because it was righty.  But it was beautiful and I got to hear him play it and appreciate it's sound as well.

Hello everyone, thought I'd give anyone who's interested an update.

Matthew Larrivee was kind enough, and PROFESSIONAL enough to explain the whereabouts of the missing guitar.

There was a production delay on Larrivees part, and apparently my dealer did inquire, but sadly I was not made aware of said delay. Somehow somewhere communication did breakdown and I'm left in the dark.

I've zero issue with waiting--within reason of course--this is an instrument I'd like to keep 'til my hands breakdown! But my concern is being left out of the loop... Someone at my dealer either didn't have the courage to be the bearer of bad news, just didn't think I warranted the information, or maybe just kept putting me to the back burner.

No matter the case, I will be getting the guitar.

My dealer likely will never see a cent from me again.

Thank you Matthew for your honesty and for clearing this all up
Thank you forum members for the advice
And one big thank you to everyone who put up with my incessant whining and griping

The dealer is an idiot for treating a customer that way, especially one who paid upfront for an expensive guitar. I think not giving him any more business is appropriate.

That dealer is what we in the UK might refer to as "an utter muppet"  :rolleye:  ...a customer pays upfront for a high value guitar and he instead of nurturing him treats him like crap.  Hope you really enjoy your guitar when it arrives Ardon    ....and a pat on the back for Matthew stepping in personally to resolve something the dealer should have fixed.

I believe somethings are worth the wait, unless your losing money by not being in tune every weekend......thats why I play Larrivee.

QuoteYeah, i should've kept the money until i received the guitar, but, well . . . cash sitting in an underwear drawer--shh don't tell any one about my safe--doesn't last all that long . . .

BTW.......I sell safes nationwide :winkin:

Ok let me clear something up here.

I did put twenty percent cash down. The rest was paid, again in cash over a couple of days, after I was told "it'll be here any day now"

I paid the rest before actual receivement because money kicking about in my *ahem* safe is asking to be spent.

Yes I should have been clearer in my statements, but truth be told, I was pissed. I wasn't being very objective in my writing.

I'm surprised the store required Payment in Full before you had the guitar in your hands. A security deposit should have been enough (even though your "safe" was... not). The store had the use of your money for what? 3 months? I just hope the guitar proves to be worth the wait; I'm sure it will be!

Pictures would be great! :nice guitar:

G'morning  :coffee or lifestyle dependant :beer

The guitar arrived at head office and was signed for at 10:36am yesterday morning.
It should make it to my dealer today.
If head office redirects as quickly as i was told that they do... sigh

perhaps pics tonight!

I can really appreciate your anticipation Arden.   While I had no "pre-payment" issues with my recent Bakersfield guitar, it was a 3 month wait....but absolutely worth it.   Again, Matthew stepped in with updates and in-process photos as they were working out the new rosewood fingerboard fabrication/ assembly issues.

As others have said, Larrivee builds very high quality guitars at a very reasonable price and with a personal touch.

We look forward to seeing photos of your new Larrivee  :nanadance
