Title: Preamp rattling!!
Post by: rpe1 on October 12, 2011, 05:48:46 PM
The L.R. Baggs iMix Notch System (Dual Source) in my LV-09 is rattling and I can't find the fix for it.  I've tightened every screw but no luck. Even rattles with the battery taken out.  Anyone had this problem and know of a fix?

thanks,

Reed

A couple of things right off that bat that has served my clients well.Get some very thin cork from a hobby store and cut to fit both the interior and outer openings and use preasure to secure it.You can also get some felt with an adhesive on one side and do the same thing. If you want to get adventurish take the unit out and shake it in case something is loose in the unit. Also check the wires as they may also be moving or have come loose from the mounting clips. If this doesn't help bring it to your favorite tech and have them go over the guitar.

Don't know much about this model of pre-amp.  Does it use a drop-in 9V battery?  I have a shadow system on my cheapo classical which does and it had a rattling issue.  Fixed by carefully inserting some open cell foam into the coil-spring that pushes the 9v into place.

Coin holders in autos can have this issue as well - a piece of foam put into the lengthwise axis of the spring kills it.  Usually more than a buzz than a rattle.  Also check for loose wires between the pup and the pre-amp and pre-amp to end-pin jack that are potentially buzzing against the top or side, assuming this is a barn-door pre-amp.  Since this is a spring loaded mounting situation, I would look there for a source issue first, but there also has to be quite a bit of extra length in the connection wires at some point in the system.  Wouldn't be the first time.

If I'm not mistaken I remember using a gasket from a car carborater once.I did have to cut and piece it together.I glued it to the underside of the outside control cap of BBand system using rubber cement.
