Title: Return of the lost tones
Post by: LaminateBoy on August 24, 2011, 11:05:47 AM
I tend to leave strings on my guitars for a long, long time and generally roll my eyes when I read or hear about players changing strings every week or so. Well, after about seven months I decided it might be time to change strings on my L-04 koa. The B string in particular was barking like a mad dog. What an ugly sound. I put on a set of Newtones (12-54), my favourite strings, and I was more astounded than usual in the difference it made. It was like I was playing a different instrument. I was hearing tones that I had completely forgotten about. Playing was an absolute joy. I promise I'll change my strings more often from now on.

The nice thing about Newtones is that they only have a hint of the new string metallic shimmer and it only lasts a day.

I used to be one of those guys who changed strings quite often. Every couple of weeks anyway if not playing out. More often when I did. Back when I only owned a couple guitars, that is. Then I discovered coated strings and now, like you, I have to remind myself to change the darn strings.  :cheers

If you find a really good string, coated or uncoated, that lasts a long time you DO forget about changing them. I have that problem with my 2 OMs. I had the SC set up in May and the strings that the tech put on were not my usual (I don't know what they were) so I changed recently and my other OM was keeping up with the new strings.... so why bother?

If you buy cheap strings you can afford to change them more often I've found.
