Rothesay Music has some nice hand made stuff but pricey, I have used the mini tortise on my DV09 and they are classey.

Past experience is that it depends on the brand of tuner. The buttons that worked on some Shallers didn't work on the Pings, and Gotohs didn't work on either, or something like that. Unless you can get them pretty cheap, or get a return guarrantee, it seems like you may be better off ordering tuners with the buttons you want -

When i wanted to change my buttons on my C19(Schallers tuners) i went on Schallers web site and they have a section under accoustic tuners and theres a good selection of buttons. i ordered a set of rosewood buttons trough my friendly guitar shop, it took about 6 weeks and cost about 40$ CND. and naturelly the fit was perfect.

It's very easy to get nice buttons for Schallers or Grovers since they were the standard "go to" tuners for decades.  Finding nice buttons that fit Pings or Gotohs is a bit harder.

Mini tuners usually have a different shaft size than the full size tuners, so full size buttons won't always fit minis and vice versa.

If you like a particular style of button (I like the squared off Schaller style) it gets harder yet.

At one point a couple years ago we had started a group effort to measure tuner shaft sizes and work out a cross referenced comparability chart.  Is this worth revisiting?

QuoteRothesay Music has some nice hand made stuff but pricey,

I've just ordered some of their Camel bone ones for the Schallers on my L-09, at least the postage is cheap as I'm in the UK.  Have asked them to pick out some off-white ones with a little character, well no point in having bone if it just looks like plastic  :rolleye:

Will post some pics when they arrive.

As promised a pic of the Camel bone buttons fitted onto the Schallers on my L-09. I asked for a set with plenty of character and they picked out these.  They are if anything darker colour than pic shows and each button is very different   ...now what to do with the spare ebony set I took off  :rolleye:

Quoteyou thinking about selling your spare ebony ones?

Will hang on to them for now as spares, they are just the regular StewMac (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Tuner_parts/Schaller_Replacement_Knobs.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=15288) ones for Schallers, the #3059 ones.  I put those on as soon as I got the guitar as the original metal buttons weigh a ton and made the guitar feel very headstock heavy :rolleye:

One thing I learned as regards fitting new buttons on the Schallers, is to keep pressure on the reverse edge of the tuner when you undo the button screw.  Otherwise the spring loading retracts the shaft the button fits on back through the body of the tuner  and its a real pain trying to then push it back through against the spring tension so you can actually get the screw attached to fix the new button in place  :whistling:
