I play for my church and occasionally play in settings where being plugged in has its advantages. I have an L-03 WL (which I adore and the more people who can hear it the better) strung with D'Addario phosphor bronze lights. I recently bought a Seymour Duncan SA3SC Woody SC Acoustic Guitar Pickup... and lo and behold it would not pick up any of the vibrations when I plugged it in, from any of the strings. The pickup does however work when I hold it near an electric I have lying around.
My question is: Am I better off selling the pickup and getting a non-magnetic one? Or should I switch strings? (which I'm reluctant to do because I bought my d'addarios in bulk) If I'm going to switch one or the other, I'll take recommendations too :) amateur guitarist really looking for the best value, not necessarily the absolute best sound out there. Thanks!
I use D'Addario EJ-16 PB light strings and a fishman Rare Earth active soundhole humbucking pickup (Pro-Rep-102) amplified at church with no problems. I know it won't pick up nickel strings, but the steel core PB strings shouldn't be a problem. Maybe the pickup is defective?
GHS white bronze are designed for magnetic pick ups. There hard to find in stores but can ordered on line through Strings by mail or just strings
