Flu has struck! One of our 10 year olds is extremely ill. The other one shows signs of coming down with it. The 13 year old is still well. We were unable to get flu shots because of the shortage. We're trying Tamiflu. I'm frightened--and I'm usually a pretty laid-back Mom.

Thank you all! We've been through plenty of illnesses before, but rarely has anyone been this sick. Anyhow, she slept pretty well last night, and is breathing a little better this morning. We still need to watch her closely. This particular flu seems to lead quickly to pneumonia. Her twin seems okay--so far. With them, it's often sympathy pains--which are very real to them (there's a lot I don't understand about the connection between identical twins, they often amaze me). You're right, Unclrob, it did help to vent.

Deb if its any help vicks on the chest,lots of orange juice or carrot juice,asprine,and if theres any Italian in them garlic it helped with my son's ear infection.I know this flu is worst then most but a little chicken soup with parsnips does wonders for my family.we be here for you.
:D Much better today! Fever down to 99. Alert and more energy. We're still watching her pretty closely, but I think the worst is over. The other 2 still seem to be well. I guess we'll know in the next few days.

I didn't see this post until today... Sorry... Hope that all is well and that you and yours had a Merry Christmas. I will pray that all was and is well with your family and that the flu outbreak in your family will not continue. It hit everyone in my family except me and my youngest son ( I rarely get sick and I did get the flu vaccine although it has proven not to be an exact match ). The virus has been the hardest on the really young ones... Hopefully that will give you a little peace of mind.

Our oldest (13) seemed to get a "light" case, and the rest of us were (so far) spared. I work at a newspaper, and have read too many reports of very ill children, and I've never seen one of mine so sick as my 10 yr. old. She is much better now. Still coughing, but good other than that. We've asked around, and the flu shot hasn't seemed to make much difference either way up here. This one seems to have done an end run around it.
