Hey colleagues, can someone give me a recommendation for what has worked for them on an 'L' body. I currently have John Pearse PB Lights on and will change over to Mediums. What I'm looking for is not such a bright sound that I currently get from the Lights. Will a change to mediums do the trick or do you suggest a different Brand of strings to accomplish the warmer sound.
You thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Personally I think mediums work best on all Larrivees - fuller and warmer sound to me. They are built solidly for the long haul. I like PB like EJ-17's, MSP 4200; Newtone Masterclass sound wonderful, and the new RED brand are full and warm sounding. I am about to audition DR Sunbeams round core strings that many here like. The arguments for and against certain strings are endless ...

Those John Pierce strings are just fine - I prefer blue-grass gauge though (some manufacturers call them light/medium) which combines the best of 2 worlds for me - the fat basses of a medium set, and the bend-friendly trebles of a light set.
I have had good results with DR and GHS Lawrence Juber. Meanwhile I working through the sets of EXP D'Addario's that I have from a bulk purchase.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I now have an idea instead of just throwing strings at it. Also, when I put the Mediums on - is it an absolute requirement to have a set up done or is there a check I can do to see if it's ok?
Thanks again.
No setup, just adjust the truss rod, if you had lights before you need to tighten it a quarter turn or so. There is info on frets.com and the taylor website on how to correctly do this, piece of cake.

Thanks for the heads up , I'll check it out. I also found some information on Santa Cruz's site today that was pretty good.
Thanks again.
13-56 DR Sunbeams (I also replace the 13 & 17 with a 14 & 18 on the trebs).

I'm a big fan of Newtone Masterclass PB 12-56 on my L's ... worth a try.
