I love the chiseled look of Australian Lacewood. :nice guitar:
South America is where Jean scooped up this lace wood ... not Australia :bgrin:
Sorry, my mistake. It looks so similar to the Australian variety, as shown below on my bass.

What John Greven has to say about lacewood on his website:
"One of the woods I really like for both looks and sound is Lacewood or Silky Oak. It is a unique tonewood in that it is super stiff, yet very light like mahogany. What makes it so outstanding is the tonal envelope it creates, regardless of body size and top material. The sound is big, quick, articulate, woody and has a pre-war sounding punch I have never heard in any other wood, new out of the box.
Every guitar I have made with this wood (including my own FX) sounds like it has been played in for 50 years, even three days after first stringing it up.
Aussie Lacewood is more Mahogany, South American lacewood is more like rosewood ..... Larrivee's Lacewood comes from South America.
Great for flat-picking it also works well with a light setup and finger style."
Thanks for the info!
Thanks xeroid ! :thumbsup
Those are some stunning guitars, both the acoustic and electric's, with that pearly grained Lacewood. They have .to my eye, a similar look to some of the SCGC acoustic's i've seen over the past couple of years made from some of the sycamore trees here on the central coast of CA.
WOW,Lacewood is stunning. It's pattern is not unlike snake skin. I want one!
Kinda looks like mahogany colored silver oak...haven't tried one yet to compare the tone however.
Has anyone else done so?
