Title: Anyone recognize this Stella?
Post by: triplecoil on March 23, 2010, 03:28:15 PM
Just surfing around the interwebs looking for guitars and happened across someone looking to sell a Stella. No mention of year, model, etc. No asking price either; they're looking for an offer: "We have a Stella Guitar that needs to find it's way to someone who plays guitars."

Anyone have any idea what model this is?

Here's a photo:

Just a guess with a pic that size and no details...  I would bet it is a late 60's early 70's Harmony.  I think my first 6 string acoustic was that same one.  I carried it as I hitchhiked across the USA.  Think Esteban...  and come down a notch or two.

that is the stella/harmony/silvertone monkey wards basic L-cheap 0 model sold in the 60's -70's often via catalogue.... this is the model later mimicked by Larrivee in the Pete Anderson model, a far superior instrument. One of my friends in high school had this as the family beater guitar, we called it the wupt, a horrible almost unplayable little beast. It was handed to anyone at a party who was too drunk to be trusted with a "real" guitar.

I saw that one too. I also wouldn't mind finding a nice old Stella ut I'd rather find an older nicer one...offe him $50 if you're interested...that's about the right price and you could still dump it and not take a bath if you don't like it...

I figured it was a long the lines of what all of you have said it likely is. I've just never seen one quite like that...though now that I think about it, it looks kind of similar to one of the 12-strings from that era I've seen.
