Would you want to 10 series bling your choice?

A long time back I had a 00-09Koa that was a nice guitar,I just can't stand slot headstocks so I sold it.

I might consider participating.  I currently own two 00-50s and they're nice guitars.   If an 00 with 50/60 series bling with Madagascar rosewood an option I'd jump.
Now that would something to dance about!!     :nanadance

My wish list includes a 00-60 Silver Oak total sunburst... now that would be a unique instrument!

Maple would be my first and only choice for a forum guitar and bling doesn't enhance the sound and playability, only the visual. I don't think I would gain much over my parlor maple by going with a 00 body size so my opinion probably doesn't matter.

There are already plenty of wood options for rosewood and mahogany. I played a jumbo maple 12 string cutaway Taylor last night and it was sweet but also had a list price of four grand. After playing a nice L-09 quilted maple 12 string a few months ago, I may decide to go that route.

   Too high $ for a forum git. Many of us like the 00 size though. I'd prefer a 00-03MTs and H-bone looks fine to me. No pings though. Waverlies for a nice change of tune.

   I gotta add though, I really liked my 00-09FM and it sounded muvh better than the P-09's I had.

A couple of questions on 00 Larrivees (I checked their website and they don't offer 00's)

1. Are they 12 fret construction?
2. Are they short scale (under 25")
3. Do they have wide fingerboards (atleast 1&13/16ths inches wide)
4 Are they slot head?

    12 fret, standard scale, 1 3/4, slot head and paddle head. ie    00-50 or 00-05 for example.

Of course all of that would require a sudden influx of $$$... 

on the 12fret / short scale issue..

I think you just won't get much volume out of that box..

Just my opinion here, but I don't think that's necessarily true.  With the proper bracing and plate thicknessing (i.e. good lutherie) I think there's more to it than the size of the box.  And 2 other things;

1) sometimes quality of sound supercedes quantity  (grin)

and the more important thing,

2)  Ergonomics.  Full sized/long scale guitars are becoming uncomfortable to play (for me).  If I can't play the guitar and it ends up sitting in it's case, it ain't worth a plug nickel.

I think the neck would be the same length whether it is 12 fret short scale or long scale, the difference would be the bridge location.

I just bought Larry's H&D 00-sp and it does not lack for volume. If they're built light they can project like crazy. I think Larrivee can do it.

Something interesting like walnut perhaps.  Since I have one of the early parlours I don't really need a smaller mahogany box.

It would only be minimally shorter for a short scale...  a 24" scale would be 3/4" shorter than a 25.5".  That is, body to nut distance.

Please keep in mind that if you want to push for a custom guitar - custom scale, neck width, whatever -  your going to raise the price on the final product. Keep it stock, and change woods or inlays, and its less of an issue. Make it a higher-end model, with a matching price tag, and I'm sure the family and a dealer will jump on offering to us.

I encourage the thought of a new Forum guitar - I think that trying to put one together every year would be real fun, and would discourage the idea that you need to get in on this one, cause you never know when the next one will be available - and fewer people who feel that they've been left out, because it wasn't exactly what they wanted - next year it may be -

But you also need to separate the players from the sayers - Lots of people want a custom guitar that is priced like a factory guitar - and I don't think its gonna happen. When I read peoples expectations, I think, "Wow, they want a custom Collings, or Martin, or H&D, or Petros, Bourgeois, Morgan, Webber, SCGC, etc, but they want it at a discounted Larrivee price - "

The 00 is a good start - I hope enough of you can take the energy to the next level. I'd be happy ot help in any way I can.

These discussions always start to sound the same to me..."We can't do that...its going to cost too much". Not sure why the forum guitar has to be the least expensive model in the Larrivee line up. Some folks are willing to pay for features...like a high gloss sunburst.

Actually, there is a certain amount of wisdom in passing on the affordable forum guitar concept....if its not what you are looking for...and biting the bullet to save for that custom Santa Cruz, Collings or Huss....

Then maybe it's time for you to take charge and push thru the high bling, high cost model. You also said we wouldn't be able to make the F-III. Now you own at least two of them.
              So step up to the plate. It's your turn at bat. We'll cheer you on and do the best to support this effort.

Could 14 fret be a practical option?  I find 12 fret limiting.

The gloss finish I can almost see, though personally I prefer satin these days.  I'd be curious to hear how many people really consider sunburst a "feature".  I always thought it was a good way to conceal a substandard piece of wood.

Never really been a fan of sunbursts, I like to see the wood.  Same with slot-head designs.  If someone can tell me an actual advantage other than to "make it look like a 1960's Martin" I'd appreciate it.

I would however like a high gloss reasonably "blingy" guitar for playing out.  Currently my 4 Larrivees are all low gloss models. 

I'm in for a stock ("bare bones") 00-03MT.  Save the fancy stuff and get the sound at a forum price.

Can I respectfully ask that you stop this thread right now, because if it goes much further I will have to sell one of my children to be prepared for the resulting order.
