Title: 2007 Pavan TP-30 64 - GONE TO NEW OWNER
Post by: LookingForLarri on August 07, 2009, 10:56:55 PM
2007 Pavan TP-30 64 - On its way to the new Owner - GONE GONE GONE
You don't see these come up for sale very often and there is a reason for that. Great tone at an affordable price.  I am the original owner having ordered this model from Tom Prisloe in April of 07.  This is a cedar top, rosewood back and sides model with fretboard binding dots at the 5th, 7th, and 9th frets. Ordered with a 50mm nut but it actually measures at 49.  Always meant to make a new nut for but just never got around to it as the playability was perfect for me as it was. Comes with the deluxe TKL case and LR Baggs element professionally installed by Tom.  There is a 1/2 inch "string ding" right behind the saddle where I busted a high E string on the first string change I ever did on the guitar  :crying:  but otherwise there are no scratches, dings etc.. All of the Pavan TP30s come with bone nuts and saddles and are setup by Tom before he ships them out.
640mm Scale 49mm nut.

I have bought and sold several guitars on this and other forums as well as being a 7 year ebay member with 100% positive feedback. I ship Fedex ground insured but can accomodate any carrier the seller wishes to use.

I offer a 48 hour acceptance period on my guitars however customer pays round-trip shipping if guitar is returned.  In a vain attempt to keep this post short I have included only a few pictures but have many more or can take any special request shots.  I am also open to phone conversations regarding any aspect of the models listed. Sorry, not looking for trades at this time.

You can contact me via PM or at parken AT crestviewcable DOT com.

to anyone considering this guitar-
you guys know how careful I am about shopping, getting details, finding quality and value.....right ?

well, I bought a Pavan TP-30 like this one from Tom Prisloe also
I HIGHLY recommend them ! ....
sounds as good as guitars costing 2 or 3 times as much.

and at this price !....what a bargin !

I paid considerably more for mine and it did not have a pickup
and I was satisfied I got a bargin...

I'd buy this guitar in a heartbeat if I did not already have one.

I posted this at this price so I could sell it hopefully move it quckly in these tough time.

I researched for several months ( well weeks anyway  :laughin: ) before buying a Pavan, do the research and you will find these are great guitars at this price point.

QuoteI researched for several months

yes, maybe 6 months or more, and tested some other brands at guitar stores.
I tried the famous Ramireze (spelling ?) - about $2,000 for the one I tried -
This Pavan TP-30 is much better - IMO.- I sure like it better-

I think new ones are about $1,600 - and that is a bargain - it plays as well as guitars costing twice that.
I got my used one for less -

but your offer of $1,000 and with electronics installed by Tom......

Wow, somebody needs to jump on this-
If I had the money I'd buy it as an investment.

Everything I read about the TP-30 was good....
so good I ordered it without having played it.

Gotta ask... did you get a chance to compare the 640mm to the standard (650 mm) TP30? I have the TP30 and have been very curious about the 640 version. Please share any impressions of the 640.

Thanks,
Albert

Quotedid you get a chance to compare the 640mm to the standard (650 mm) TP30?

I had the 650 for about a year
now have the 640 -

Now that I've had a chance to play the 640 - I like it better.

The 650mm is 25.6 inch round off (as I recall )
The 640mm is 25.2 inch

What got me interested was a recent 1st time purchase of a short scale steel string 24.9 inch.
I discovered how much I really liked the shorter scale.
So I took a chance and jumped on this 640 without seeing or playing it.

The TP-30 can also be ordered with a 630mm - a tad under the Martin size short scale of 24.9.

I'm happy with the 640 that is inbetween the 24.9  and the 25.6.
...might like the 630 even better !

My playing is more comfortable, smooth
and I don't feel like I'm wrestling with the neck to get my chords.

I can switch back and forth between my 640 classical and 24.9 steel string seamlessly - no adjustment period.
I have a wide hand but short fingers -  like a duck I guess

wish I had gone the short scale route years ago.

Thanks LW. That is the first i have heard of the 630mm. Did the narrower nut width on the 640 feel cramped at all?

QuoteDid the narrower nut width on the 640 feel cramped at all?

Well, NUT WIDTH and SCALE are two separate features.

You can get a 2 inch nut on a 640 scale ( I think that's considered standard)
or
you can ask Tom Prisloe to provide a narrower nut - like 1.9 inch for example

My 640 scale guitar came with a slightly more narrow nut - it is about 1.9

It has made it easier for me to make good barre chords.  :thumb

....something about my shorter fingers and the way the joints fall across the strings just fits better for me on the 1.9 rather than the 2.0

A wide 2 inch nut classical guitar was all I had for many years.
Last year when I decided to try a steel string-
I could not find a local guitar with even a 1 7/8 nut.......1 3/4 was the widest I could find.
So I bought a Larrivee L-03R (a wonderful guitar - great value) thinking I could adjust to the 1 3/4 nut.

After several months I gave up trying...sold it, ordered online a Larrivee SD-50 with a 1 7/8 nut  (a fabulus guitar)
...decided I wanted a smaller guitar with features similar to the SD-50..., sold it, ordered online a Huss & Dalton oo-sp custom (dream guitar)

I've since, had a chance to try some guitars with 1 13/16  -  and they work ok for me-
Smaller than that and I have a problem.

As for SCALE

If you are asking if the shorter 640 scale - with its slightly shorter distance between frets feels cramped -
NO - not cramped. It actually works better for me in the open positon and up to about 7th position.
I can now stretch my pinky much easier to reach notes that were hard for me to stretch to on the 650 scale.

After the 7th position, I can feel a difference - but it was something I adjusted to quickly - it seemed to come natural-
no problems.

Wish I had started using short scale years ago !....and a nut size in the 1 13/16  to 1.9 range....

When I think about it now,
I buy gloves based on my hand size -
so buying a guitar that 'fits my hand' should be very important  :bgrin:

My H&D OO-SP custom has a 24.9 scale - even shorter than the 640
and it feels custom fitted to my hand size.

So the Pavan 630 scale ( just under 24.9) might feel even better than the 640 scale !

Another factor is string spacing. You have a 'little' room to play with string spacing depending on how the slots in the nut are filed.
