Hello fellow Forumites,
I thought I would come here before trying ebay.
Because of minor medical setback, I'm having to work up to one month part time. Rather than dip into my emergency fund. I'm selling this bass.
It's a 2004 Epiphone Elitist EB3 '61 reissue. Except for the headstock and being made in Japan, it's a replica of the bass Jack Bruce played when he was with Cream. Andy Frazier from the bluesrock band Free also played one. (Their hit was "Alright Now).
The bass has a 20 fret mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard and block inlays, the body is SG shaped and dark cherry in color. It has to humbuckers, one at the neck, which is huge, they were nicknamed the "mudbucker." There is also a minihumbucker at the neck. 2 volume and 2 tone controls. One cool feature in the varitone, a for position switch.
Position 1: neck pickup solo
Position 2: neck and bridge p/u together
Postion 3: bridge pickup solo
Position 4: both pickup with a midrange frequency cut.
My favorite sound is the 2nd position. I dial in just a little bit of the bridge pickup to add a little treble snap. It sweetens the tone of the big humbucker and you can cut right through the mix. IMO, the bridge mini-humbucker is too trebly on it's own.
The bass was in my closet for the last 2 years, so I just had it in for a setup, wiring check, pots cleaning, etc. I also had the tech condition the fretboard and intonate the bass.
More specs:
The bass is shortscale with a 30 1/2" scale, so not a big adjustment for someone who mostly plays guitar.
The tuners are Gotohs made to look like the original issue ones.
The pickups, capacitors, wiring, knobs and switches are all USA Gibson made.
The body is solid book matched African Mahogany.
Issues: very small chip on the headstock, and two small dings on the lower from when I forgot to bring a stand to a gig. Finally some light scratches around the neck strap peg from a leather guitar strap
Almost forgot, there a little tarnishing on neck pickup where anchor my thumb. I couldn't get that to photograph. The bass comes with a Godin gigbag. As the dealer said the original case came with busted hinges. (?)
I got the bass for $1000 because of the case issue. I'm hoping to get $800 with shipping and insurance. I do paypal and will absorb the fees if I get my full price. Otherwise, a postal MO or cashiers check, when the check clears I'll ship the bass.
I have more pictures if you're interested.
