Title: The Helpful Buttons Which Don't Do Much
Post by: Fergy07 on August 05, 2004, 08:35:26 AM
Having tested software for the last twenty six years, I have to ask...just what does the row of buttons above do (http://, IMG, etc)? They certainly don't seem to work as one would expect. I just saw the post lower on in this discussion room about posting pictures, and I wouldn't have thought of embedding HTML commands into the line to get a picture to show. I did try yesterday to look at the source of the page and do something similar with very poor results, but I digress...does anyone know how to enable the above buttons to work? Am I missing something obvious?

Very confused,
Andy

Good question.  For some reason, the http:, img, @, and list buttons do nothing.  I have no idea why.  They have been that way ever since I started using this software (Invision Power Board).

I'm currently, although slowly, testing new forum software.  Soon we'll be running new software on a new server, so hopefully these little bugs will be fixed.  This summer has been crazy, but things should slow down in the fall and I'll have more time to devote to it.

Thanks, at least I can stop doubting my sanity for now.

OK, I have been able to get pictures to post correctly by using the IMG tags, but I am not having much luck with links. I have tried just pasting the link in and that does not appear to work and I have tried putting a [http] tag pair around it.

What am I doing wrong?? What is the magic word??

For links you don't have to do anything besides paste them in as text. Just make sure they are directly accessable links (ie: .html code). Indirect links like .asp don't work.

don't forget to include the 'http://' and the '.com' or IE can't interpret it as a web address.
