Title: D-03-12 vs L-03-12
Post by: Makarovii on July 26, 2008, 06:02:53 PM
A buddy of mine has had me go with him to check out all maple 12'ers lately by Washburn and Epiphone, maple being his tone wood of choice. I like the idea of a Larrivee 12'er but have not found any locally to try. Has anyone here had a chance to play the D vs L body style side-by-side and can you give me your opinion of the two? I suspct the D to have a little more bass but the L to have a slightly more unique tone. A look at the Larrivee website shows they no longer make the D-03-12.

Call Jim Holler @ Trinity Guitars. He has four 12 strings in stock (unless they were sold this week) listed at really great prices including:

L-03R 12 (Rosewood) Satin
D-03 12 (Mahogany) Satin
L-05 12 (Mahogany) Gloss
L-09 12 (Quilted Maple) Gloss (Trust me. You would be the only guy in town with one of these.)

He special ordered an LV-03MT 12 string for me and installed a bone saddle and L.R. Baggs pickup. I played an L-03 against a D-03 12 and wanted something a little different so I went with a Mahogany Top. According to the Customer Service Department, they only made 30 MT 12 strings. I played it for two hours last night and will be out on the back porch with it later today. This gives me all the bass I would ever want in a 12 string because I keep it tuned down a whole step to D.

Jim will give you a straight forward opinion and answer any questions you might have. He moves a lot of everything including 12 strings so he knows what he's talking about. I have purchased four guitars from him and would have no qualms about recommending him.
