Title: Omozom's new/used LSV-11
Post by: omozom on July 14, 2008, 06:57:32 PM
I just received this from Luke @ Larrivee re: my recent purchase.

"Our records indicate that your LSV-11 was built on 06/28/2006.
Your Nut and Saddle could be either Bone or TUSQ, we were experimenting during that timeframe.  You are perfectly fine to use Medium gauge strings on the guitar.
I would recommend cleaning the fretboard with a cloth and using some double boiled linseed oil to oil/clean it up."

I really want to know if this is Tusq or bone. Does anyone know a sure fire method to distinguish between the two materials. Any help would be tonally appreciated.

It's really not hard at all. The nut should be bone and if the saddle gleems and reflects light (same thing) then it is bone. Tusq is a dull white and feels a wee bit rough. Your other gits may have tusq.
I'm not sure but I'll check on my build date they may be close. Both of mine are high quality bone and shine.  Danny
