I´m a proud owner of a OO-20 (yes... 20!!!) Larrivée. It looks like a 19 with no silverlining in the headstock area. It comes with koa back, sitka spruce top, rosewood binding, sea shells in the fingerboard (....just like big dots) and a dolphin on the headstock. It´s year of building is around 1993.
I bought it, because it sounds very crisp and clear. Very good playability because of the short scale neck! Every parlour player can tell that! It has a special laquer - with open pores - so it is more permeable for the wood and its sound. But it looks like an amateur finish - not glossy.
Can anybody in the forum tell me more about this type of guitar and it´s very unusual finish? :?
Thank you very much
Krefett
Can you post pictures of the guitar? :gotpics:
It sounds like the finish might be a satin finish. I'm certainly no Larrivee expert, but I haven't heard of a -20 series before. I am curious as to how you came up with the model number. Is it on the guitar? Pictures would be great.
The 00 series guitars are generally 12 fret necks instead of 14 (so a shorter neck), but the scale length is usually the standard 25.5inches (nut to bridge).
Yes. Pictures would be great. You have a rare instrument...
Sounds like the one advertised on EBAY right now:

Thank you for the first mails!
On the neck block inside the guitar you can first see the 20, under that, you can see the serial number. The former German distributor Götz in Erlangen offers it as a OO-20 - and that seems correct! He was a koa freak and I know he owns several koa´s himself!
The ebay-offer that kaos finds is the exact sister of my OO! Great finding! Thank you!! So it must be a C-20! Hope anyone in the forum try to get the guitar, a rare example - must be sounding great. My OO has no sea shells in the bridge but also in the fingerboard and the dolphin on the headstock. Must be a small series of that time. :+1:
Thanks to Randy for the post of the scale length. As I see I have to learn... Could the lower string tension cause the comfortable playability? Randy, I love your website and your guitars!!!!
As soon as I can I post pictures, but I´m a newbie in the forum!
