Title: D-09
Post by: MissouriPicker on September 08, 2007, 12:13:12 AM
Tonight at my gig, I had a friend show-up with a Larrivee D-09.  I think that's what it was.  I"m not real famiilair with Larrivees and don't see too many around.  Anyway, I have to say that this guitar was one of the sweetest and easy-to-play guitars that I  can remember.  He let me use it  for a half-dozen songs and it was excellent.  I wasn't plugged-in.  Just mic-ing the guitars tonight.  The sound was really powerful.  I think it's time I started looking at some Larrivees when I shop for guitars.  This truly was a very nice guitar.  I'm sure he said it was mahogany.  I've got a couple of super Gibsons and an absolutly awesome HD28, but I believe this guitar was of their calibre.  The sustain of the notes was very noticable on some slides that I do...Nice guitar.  Real nice.

You're preachin' to the choir here, my friend.  Welcome the wonderful world of Larrivee guitars and Larrivee guitar players.   Indeed they are special to those of us who've discovered their distinct look, feel, and sound.
Hope you have a pleasant hunt for your perfect Larrivee.  Try several different styles if you can.
The D-09 would of course be big and powerful, being a dreadnaught, but the L bodies and the OM bodies, 000 style etc, are wondferful in their own right.

I believe you were playing a D-05 if it was mahogany back and sides.    The D-09 is rosewood and they would not look similar at all.  The D-05 mahagony would sound a bit different from the D-09 as well.
The mahogany would probably be brighter; the rosewood darker sounding.  Either one is a great choice if the Dread style is your preference.

Welcome to the forum.    Let us know how your search for your own Larrivee is progressing.
