Title: Is this something I should worry about....
Post by: Ponte on September 06, 2007, 05:48:44 PM
.... or is it a poor quality control issue? (i.e. badly finished binding)
Is it likely to progress and become worse with time?
I`ve had this L05 for a year and haven`t noticed it until taday.
Should I do anything about it?
Thanks for your advice.

I don't think it looks bad when you consider the materials and ways a guitar is put together and how many even sold as new and as high level models are imperfect. It would only bother me much if I felt something all the time when playing. YMMV of course, but my favorite and absolutely best (tone and feel) guitars are not cosmetically perfect. One was bought used and the other as well used new old stock. I apologize if the photos don't reveal what really is a problem, but my priorities are tone and feel at a good price.

Good luck if you pursue some sort of repair and enjoy it otherwise.

Try not to look there.  :winkin: If its glued down tight then it is a cosmetic issue only.

My year old L05 had pretty poor fret finishing, but a set-up guy took a file to the rough ones and finished them real nice.  I seem to remember several posts in the pst about the poor quality of the finished fret ends on Larrivees.  You're not alone.

To be fair, my other 2 Larrys and my son's L03R and OM  03 QM have well finished frets.

Wow, it's a little disappointing to see that.  But I have to agree, the important thing is if it is affecting tone or feel.  I wouldn't expect it to change or get worse either.  How does she feel and sound?

I've got a weird issue with my fret ends. There's this strange blue-ish/green color that is forming onto the white plastic binding.  I wish I could post a pic to show you all, but I know I'd never figure out how.  It's just a slight little discoloration happening and I have no clue what's causing it.

Corrosion from strings and/or frets, but the copper in strings come to mind.

Thank you all
It is very reassuring that you think it is only a cosmetic and not a structural issue and therefore is not likely to get worse.
The guitar feels, sounds and looks perfect.
I don´t mind minor cosmetic problems.
By some of the comments some of you make, you may have  looked at the fret end finish  instead ot the junction between the top and the fretboard binding in the photos (where my concern was).
Thanks again

Its just a little schinkage of the plastic binding.Its no big deal.I see more on the top side of the binding under the fret ends{a good tech can take care of that}
