Title: L03 Koa For Sale
Post by: jfilkins on June 05, 2004, 11:14:32 AM
This Larrivee L03 koa was purchased in January of this year and is in mint/like new condition. I have recently acquired an LV Koa model and prefer it to the L03.  I purchased this because I could not find an LV in koa at the item. It has been played very lightly, wit fingers only and is really starting to open up. Superb set up, sustain ...in other words, it's a Larrivee!!!  It has been used on  a limited basis for recording purposes only...has never left my home studio and always returns to its case.  Meticulously cared for. I can't figure out how to post pictures but I can email them to any one who is interested....

Even though Jim is new to posting on this Forum, I can vouch for him as a very honest and upstanding individual. Nice guy and true Larrivee lover! :)

Where are the tone and volume differences compared to the Mahogany L-03? Thanks...

Mike, I think the koa is brighter, sharper and more resonate which seems to really come through in a recording situation. It doesn't have the darkness of say rosewood, but it also has more depth than mahogany in my opinion. I have heard people describe them as sounding similar and I suppose there is truth in that, but my ears can tell the difference. I might, also add that when a koa opens up, and it does take time, the depth and breadth of sound improves dramatically. This guitar is now 6 months old and when I played it side by side with a brand new Larrivee LV03 koa the difference was obvious. I might also add that the set up on this baby is superb... as a friend of mine said "It plays like butter!" I hope this helps....jim

I just wanted to say that I have dealt with Jim also, and he is a very straightforward person, very easy to deal with.  I just wish I could play or record as well as he! ;)
