Title: Replacement Tuner Information (NOT a tuner thread!)
Post by: Dale_I on May 03, 2007, 07:14:18 PM
This is NOT a tuner thread. Just some information I found that I thought others would appreciate.

While I was researching replacement tuners for the Pings that come stock, I ran across this company that was extremely helpful.

Scott at
Domo International
888-274-4286

They are a Gotoh dealer, but (more importantly) carry 126 different machine head tuners. However, 126 is just the number of different models of tuners, not styles of tuners. For instance, in the Gotoh 510 series he has 5 different posts, 7 different buttons, and 12 different finishes. So, in just the Gotoh 510 series you might have up to 420 different combinations. He admittedly does not carry all of them in stock, but he does have proper representation of the popular combinations from all 126 different tuners and will order anything he does not carry that is available.

He even faxed me a couple pages of schematics for different tuners in the series that I was looking at so I could measure them up for fit. I really appreciated the time he took with me on the telephone and I'm convinced his customer service is above par.

For those of you who are interested, I just thought you might want to know,

Thanks Dale. Good find. Did you get an idea of how their prices compare to Stew Mac and LMI ?

I didn't specifically look at prices for the same item - oranges to oranges. But, similar items - maybe navel oranges to valencia oranges. Some of the problem is that I haven't been able to find too many companies that use the manufacturers identification system. Most of them have their own part numbers and I'm not entirely sure they are the same. But, the spec sheets looked identical.

StewMac had the 510 series in all black for $84.83 and all chrome for $76.26. LMII sold the chrome machine with black button for $76.45 (3 or more sets for $68.05). I purchased the chrome machine with black button for $66 and paid $4.95 for shipping, for a total to delivered to my door of $70.95.

As an update, I received the tuners today. Quick shipping, great packing, and he included a Gotoh 2005 catalog which has all the head specifications. If anyone would like me to fax or email any info or schematics to them, just drop me a PM or email. I'll scan whatever you would like and shoot it over to you.

Thanks, Dale,

That will answer some of the questions I have about the variety of buttons available for the 510s.

As you can see, there are actually a total of 12 different button configurations, but he only stocks 7. Some of the SG Series also look like they will fit Larrivees, and there is another 14 buttons over there. :arrow

Thanks for going to the trouble to scan, resize and post that.   Sincerely appreciate your efforts.
