Title: LR Baggs Element Pickup - Good or Bad???
Post by: jackstrat on April 19, 2007, 02:15:29 PM
I just purchased and installed a LightSnake guitar cable USB Soundcard in a cord device. I recorded my Seagull M6 Gloss via its LR Baggs Element pickup and the results were less than acceptable. Generally I record acoustics using mics, but am planning on playing out with the guitar.

Anyway, the question is...what is the general thought sound-quality wise of the LR Baggs element? Should I consider retro fitting something else? Or is it the LS Cable?

Perhaps my Para DI would help?

I'm a big fan if K&K Sound Pure Western Mini.  However the Baggs Element is  a good pickup for an under saddle.  Do you have an acoustic amp ore PA?   Take the guitar and your PADI to your local store and use a decent PA or plug it in at home, and with our PADI spend some time dialing in  the best sound you can get.  Your  recording should sound at least that good.

I honestly don't think you can get any good quality sound soley from an undersaddle piezo pickup for studio purposes.  Mic is 100x better...

Piezo's will never impress me much.  I don't think the element is anything exceptional when compared to other dual source systems or even the M1 from LR Baggs.
