Title: Morgan Guitars - any experience?
Post by: Big Martin on March 30, 2007, 06:59:08 PM
I have just played a Morgan mahogany OM,  One word - WOW!

Anyone know much more about these guitars?

The OM looked like a Larrivee on the outside, but appeared to use extremely forward shifted X-bracing.  Maybe scalloped Martin style?

Morgan guitar owner David Innone used to work for Jean. His guitars are assembled in his shop but the finish and neck is done by the Larrivee factory.  While people argue that it's a different guitar, I've tried a few, they are basically a custom shop larrivee.  Think of it as playing best examples of Larrivee.  That being said, I've also played a few Larrivees that are better than Morgans.

I've played some great Morgans at local stores. and they're all great.

absolutely fell in love with a concert mahogany, but couldn't afford it at the time.  (bought my D-50 a few months after it the CM slipped away)
the CM was absolutely flawless, sounded amazing, and had a very comforable neck.  the neck was different from larrivee shapes, but still felt right.

most of the morans that iv played have been mahogany, except for a nice 00 in rosewood.

Iv also heard that Morgan can do some custom work too, which is a plus.

all around great guitars. and they have a good fan base growing around them.

I have never seen a Morgan 00 but can't wait to do so...

I believe the bracing may be more along the lines of Martin forward shifted rather than Larrivees symmetrical

Hey Big Martin,

I have a Morgan 00. It was made with French Walnut for the back and sides. I believe its a one of a kind. Great guitar. I've never heard anything like it before. Real punchy and loud.

I have a Morgan OM that has a German Spruce top and French Walnut back and sides. It is the best guitar I have owned. I have had a Taylor 714ce and 814ce, Gibson Southern Jumbo, Martin OM-18v, D18-GE, 000-18GE as well as a few Larrivees. Nothing comes close. It just gets better every day. I strongly suggest youget you a Morgan. You will not be sorry.
