Title: Anyone put a pickup in their parlor? Recommendations?
Post by: jwb on February 23, 2007, 07:05:53 AM
I am going to install a pickup in my P-09 parlor, and was wondering if anyone else has had done this.  I was thinking of going with the Baggs no-cut I-mix as the other factory Larrivees have.  I have heard of a few other parlors with this installed.  I usually use only USTs on my guitars because I tend to strike the top percussively when I play and any soundboard sensors pick this up too much.  On the parlor, however, I play rather lightly (fingerstyle) so I should be able to get away with having the I-beam as part of the I-mix system.  I figure that if I still like the UST sound more I can dial in more of the "element" UST and use less I-beam.  Opinions?

I have a K&K Pure Western Mini in my L-03 and just bought another one to have installed in my all mahogany parlor.  I love the natural sound I get and even with no preamp, they have pretty good output.

Did you drill your parlor for an endpin jack then denis  ?

As unlike the bigger cousins the parlors don't have a ready made 1/2" hole so am a little nervous getting the drill out   ...maybe I ought not to use "hammer mode" just in case  :doh

I would think the I-mix would work quite nicely in this case. Or any dual source. Whenever the topic comes up, I always tell people how awesome my Baggs dual source makes my guitar sound. If you can find a more natural and powerful sounding preamp system, I'm all ears.

I think that a dual input system would be great for your guitar, the internal mic or soundboard transducer would pickup the natural woody tones and finger subtleties, while the UST provides your string clarity.

No, I didn't drill it but my tech will be installing the K&K in any case.  I've got some experience with a drill but putting up a gate to keep the baby away from a staircase and installing a pickup in my parlor are two different things.  Also, the bridge on my parlor is lifting again.  I had had my guy do a glue injection and clamping a few months back but I think he'll have to remove it completely and reglue this time around.
