Hi folks. As regulars may recall just before Christmas I picked the brains of just about everyone and after much deliberation bought an L05 from Jim at Trinity guitars. I was apprehensive about the trip from the U.S. to the U.K. but everything went fine. When the guitar arrived, it was fitted with the standard 12 gauge Cleartone strings. Things were very tight initially but she loosened up gradually. The tone is lovely and a perfect foil for the rosewood L09 I have. After one days playing that exceeded 6 hours in total I was left with deep ridges in my fingers and unable to play the other guitars (nothing new there then...) so I changed to Elixir 11s. The guitar now seems to have blossomed into full flower. Whereas before I was very very pleased with the guitar, I can honestly say for a guitar thats been played so little, the tone is so beautiful, words are hardly sufficient to do justice. Thanks are due to Jim at Trinity guitars, and also to the folks at Larrivee. Last but not least thanks to the forum members who gave their advice. Now can I afford an MT........ Cheers, John

You and I seem to have similar taste in guitars. Let me put it in another way. YOu have a great taste in guitar. I think EBMM electrics are one of the biggest hidden secret in the guitar world. I just love their Silo Specials. Also, Out of all the Larrivee guitars I have owned...about several dozen, one of my favorite was L-05
btw, God is Good.
I had a set of cleartones and thought they caused more friction than any strings I've used before. I think they plate them with something so that may be why. The L-05 is a great guitar, if I had a second Larrivee it would be a L-05 or L-03.
john, I also got me a LV-05 but got it here in the UK, any chance you could p/m me what you paid for it,allin with vat and what have you ,I'm instrested to see if I paid well over the odds, cheers
I've got an L-03, standard mahogany and I love it but had I had the $, I would be playing an L-05 right now. John, Larrivee's L-05 is one of those special guitars that you can do almost anything on. Fingewrpick, strum, flatpick...it's all good on a L-05. One day, I'll probably sell the L-03...when I've got the dough...then I'll buy an L-05. I've played several and they were all great.
I think I may have seen sparks when I was sliding down the Cleartones on my L-05. I put Elixirs on and it now plays better. I really wanted to like the Cleartones, but they just didn't feel right to me.
John, Glad the guitar made the trip so well to the UK and that the guitar has pleased you. You have got to like a Larrivee Mahogany L Just great guitars.
I am mixed in the cleartone strings. I just I like the old 80/20 bronze the best.
God Bless

You know it Jim! I've got a mahogany L that I keep strung up with plain old 80/20's too and low and behold, I got it from you!!!
John, that L-05 is sweet now but will only get better the more you play it.
Hey John, glad to hear that the guitar made it home safely. PTL
As much as everyone likes the 80/20 I just can't get used to the brightness but, I haven't tried them on my OM-03MT or the L-03WL, I did pick up some 85/15 rather cheap so i'll see if my taste has gone south a bit.
Hi Jim, glad to see you on the this forum, it's wonderful to have all this knowledge on this forum.
Hey John, been out of town for a while and just read your post. I'm glad you really like the L05!! :thumbsup Like everyone said, it'll get better with time. I'm also glad that I didnt let mine go!! I was very close to selling her, to you or someone else. As you know, the L09 is a great guitar too, but the L05 mahagony is just a little different, Love that Mahagony tone!! Thanks for keeping us posted !! Have a beer on me :beer
