Can the LR BAGGS RT Ribbon Transducer be used passively? I know it doesnt have a high output but what acoustic under saddle passive piezo does have a relatively high output and also sounds good? Also giving me the option of using an outboard preamp with it if I wanted to but I wouldnt have to if I didnt want to? I have looked at the fishman acoustic matrix NT 1 and my local luthier has those in stock and installs them. I have also looked at the dean markley barstow passive. Is the acoustic matrix NT 1 passive? Any and all suggestions, advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I am so confused at this very moment.
Thanks
Dan
Most piezo type pickups have ridiculously high impedances (1-2 MEGA ohms, your average condensor mic is like 600 ohms) so they need a preamp to get the signal up to a decent level for the amp.
I was never happy until I discovered Direct Input boxes(I use units from Radial Engineering). With passive pich-ups try to keep your guitar cable under 8' lonf to avoid signal drop-off. Gigging I use a Yamaha Magicstomp Acoustic which combines a DI and programmable effects. Simplicity and grace.
