What I mean by this is;
Have you found that you dont watch the TV as much/any more?  That you dont "hang" at the Mall? Pop music has become peripheral--it doesnt lend itself to truly acoustic guitar (I could be wrong here).  Then...as this happens, you put the guitar down (at least for bodily functions!), and realize you are having more quality time, i.e. time that doesnt seem "wasted", conversations (because the TV isnt flooding space), your kids are interested in non-pop music (isnt that cool!)--

Just pondering, as I realized the TV had not been on all weekend (we dont watch much anyway),
and I almost have a full bag of callous chips to bring over to orsino's!! <_<

I know what you mean.  Lots of times my wife and I sit around and sing songs instead of watching the "idiot box" and wasting time.  My 3 year old even knows some good Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, and Third Day tunes!!  It really freaks people out when he starts singing along....and on key!!  The kid is going to be great....really makes me proud. He even has his own P-tar (guitar).  OK....enough proud parent rambling... <_<

But we really do have a different life than most of our friends.  Lots of people think it's very cool to be able to sit around and sing and play.  I'll even have non-guitar players comment on how good my Larrivee sounds.....now, that's when you know you have a good guitar.  

My wife would rather us sit around and sing, as opposed to TV or something else.  Life is good at my house.... :)

i can say without a doubt since taking up guitar playing less than a year ago my life style has gone through a very radical change almost entirely for the better.  my greatest regret is not tasking up the guitar 30 years ago but at least i can say i'm giving it my best here and now.  not a day goes through without at least some guitar playing so that takes up a good amount of time that would have otherwise gone to waste watching TV or just zoning out.

You guys are all very lucky - it's not really the case in my house. My wife thinks that I'm wasting time best spent on the 'honey-do' lists of the day, but she can't take my guitars away from me. The real frustrating thing is that I used to play all the time years ago but have long since fallen out of touch and moved far away from all my former musicain friends.

My wife be coming around though - after experiencing a rebirth in playing last year I've been practiicng 2-3 hours a day and have gotten pretty good with a few of the songs that I've been working on. Before she used to moan and groan but yesterday I caught her actually humming along and enjoying it!

She's also kept my GAS bottled pretty tightly - I wonder if this too shall change?

I have noticed that change as well.  While I never have been a big tv watcher I probably watch less than an hour a week now.  Occasionally, I watch a dvd here and there but I usually sit around and strum the geetar while doing it.

TV really does suck you in doesn't it? A friend of ours gave up TV for lent and we decided to join him. Man, how long are evenings without TV?! We found we could  fit in all the things we wanted to do and still have time to restring my guitar (which I hate BTW... restringing that is!).
