Hi

I have just bought a L03 a few days ago. Uffortunatly when I play the guitar, it seems to have this high resonance. I have changed the strings (elixir 0.12) but the resonance is still there. Can it be a malfunction with the body?? Or does the guitar just sound like this??
Does anybody knows about this??
I have put up a Mp3 so that you can hear what i´m talking about. The last half of the mp3, I have boosted the resonance tone so you really can hear the sound it´s making.

This will sound stupid, but have you played the guitar in different spots around the house. If you've been playing in one designated spot lately that could be it. just a thought. That does sound nasty, btw. My former L-03 didn't have that problem.

put some foam under the strings above the nut...  Other than that, I would check each string, but mostly the top 3 by LIGHTLY pushing side to side at the saddle to see if any weirdness is there...

Sometimes those wierd things are caused by a strange truss rod position. If you give the truss rod a nudge to tighten--not even a 16th of a turn--just a hair, it might resolve. I have seen this before and it isn't just limited to Larrivées. The truss rod can sometimes vibrate in the neck at just the right frequency to create a strange sympathetic tone like this.

If this doesn't work, try a string change,[I just noticed you said you did already] as a bad winding can also cause wierdness like this. When you change them, check to see that the ball ends of all the strings are seated properly, because--you guessed it, this can also cause wierd noises like the one you describe. If that doesn't get it, check the nut slot to see if adding a bit of graphite on the string (sounds like a G, but I could be wrong) which is not sitting in the slot properly. It could aslo be a "burr" or worn spot in the saddle that is causing the wierdness because the string is not riding on the saddle properly. These should get the problem resolved.

If none of these suggestions help, sell the guitar and get another one.  :GRN>

shake your guitar around gently. see if anything is rattling or loose. 

That might help, but often these resonance creating issues are so minor they don't rattle when shaken, only when they are sypathetically vibrated.

Even though the sound is not a buzz, have you made sure the tuners are snug?

That's a good place to check that I forgot. Make sure the posts and bushings or the tuner buttons are not causing it.

Have you tried what philster suggested yet about the foam under the strings above the nut?  That's my best guess as to where the problem lies.

I found that when I play Oh Papa in the bathroom of my home there is a real weird thing that happens with the g note on the high e. I at first though I was slightly out of tune and found that not to be the case and it was driving me nuts. I went to another room and voila frequency problem disappeared went back to the wonderful echo of the restroom and bam back again. My dred however sounds fine same song same room! Go figure.

Well I have now tryied some of the easiest things, like shaking the guitar, foam under the strings, playing in different places and i have checked the strings and the tuners. I think the tuners are okay, but when i change the strings, they are a bit loose  :huh: Well i´ve never had a good akk guitar before and never a Larrivée, so maybe that is just how it is. (they are of course not loose when the strings are put on)
The resonance is still there after going through all of these things, so now I´ve decided to take it to the store where I bought it. They must know if anything is wrong or what to do with it I hope -_-

I had a similar tone in a Tacoma DM9 and changing the saddle from tusq to bone took care of it.

I bet the problem is with the nut slots as others have suggested.  When I get a strange sound and nothing takes care of it, I'll take some very fine (600 to 800 grit) sandpaper and run it through the slots a few times without using more than slight pressure and this usually takes care of it.  If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it back to the store and let them troubleshoot it. 

Sounds like a proper setup should clear things up.  Good luck!

Yes, when I replaced the tusq saddle, it was loose.........so, I can't say if the actual fix on my guitar was due to the bone material or just having a proper fitting saddle.

In my very un-educated-got no basis for this-gut feeling-opinion-after listening to the mp3, the truss rod needs a little tweek.  Or I need another drink....

Does the guitar have an onboard preamp or other electronics? You may want to check if anything is funky there as well.
