I have a 1996 Larrivee L 05 which I bought new in 1996.
I had a look recently inside the guitar with mirror and noticed a patch on the top about 2 inches south of the bridge plate.
I am wondering if Larrivee out this there to prevent seam separation or whether the dealer may have done this.
Any opinions appreciated.
What kinda patch?Does the top show signs of seperation or repair?
Have you had a pickup professionally installed?
:gotpics:
There is no pickup-top does not show signs of separation and the patch is approx 1 inch by
1/2 inch
Sounds like a cleat was installed to repair a crack.
I bet it was the area where a pick-up might be installed. Probably no flaw in the guitar. This topic has come up before.

I am the original owner so I suspect the dealer may have done this as they may have suspected a seam seperation.

Except the subject patch is under the top, not on the side where a preamp would be installed.

Is the long axis of the patch across the grain: or parallel?
My bad. Missed "the top" part.

Without seeing it, that is what I an thinking too.
It is across the grain
I'll bet it is a cleat. Can't see any other reason it would be there unless it was some kind of base for a transducer of some kind.
My OM-03 has four cleats under the lower bout (2 cracks equidistant from the center-line). The repair is very sound and doesn't affect the tone as far as I can tell. However, the cracks are still quite visible on the top. It is the reason I got it for such a good price.
