Magazine ad with Jean!

I have a handful of old acoustic guitar magazines from the early 2000's, and I love pulling them out once in a while.  Yesterday I saw this ad, and at the time I bought this mag, I probably didn't know anything about the Larrivee brand.  What a cool ad to see now!

Jean travels the world to source wood. Or he did.  Their web site often had pictures of him in out of the way places looking at pallets of wood and he and John Jr. walking on Sitka logs choosing the best.

I love how the mentality is different. Most companies will show a celebrity. Larrivee shows you the man himself going to the literal ends of the earth to get the materials to make your guitar.
Love it.

I used to truly love guitar mags back in the 90s/early 2000s.  I started seeing the Larrivee ads about the same time I started seeing Larrivees in GC.  They used to feature the guys in Barenaked Ladies, Brad Paisley, and Pete Anderson, et al.  I always thought the ad with Paisely standing in front of a massive shiny tour bus holding a Larrivee dread was cool.   I was never into Paisley's music but knew he was/is a monster player. 

Even websites were something really cool back then.  I can't remember how many times I'd go to the old Larrivee site and watch Justin King playing on his Larrivee.  That kind of slappy playing wasn't ubiquitous then and still really held my attention if done well.
