Hi everyone. Its been awhile since I've posted.
I just purchased a lovely Larrivee OM-03 Maple Leaf Peruvian Walnut and I am thinking about changing the tuners.
I think I've read that the Gotoh 510 midsize are drop in for the Larrivees?
Anyone here used these?
Thank you so much.
I'm thinking about a set for my PV-03. I know it's been asked (and answered) a hundred times already, but if anyone knows it would be appreciated.
Ed
:bgrin: Go to Technical Discuussion, then Technical FAQ on this site. I prefer the Gotoh Schaller type myself, rather than the 510s'.They also drop straight in.

I believe that the parlour takes the mini size. You need to be aware of the angle of the screw. It comes straight out (Schaller mini) or at an angle (Gotoh mini). Which type do you have?

Are these the ones that you favor? I'm looking at getting black.

That helps a bunch. Thank you.
Do you know if stewmac is the best place to purchase?
Yes. Direct drop in, and a fantastic tuning machine.

dohh!!! Nice Post Dave, sorry I'd missed that.
I must be especially lucky, because the Larrivée tuners on my Parlor work perfectly. I assume they are the much maligned Pings, but I've found they do not cause any problems.

The pings on my 99 parlor are still in fine shape. They've always worked like they should. The ones on my newer PV-03 are fine, too really. I just wonder if a set of 21:1 510's would be a nice upgrade. The ones on my PV have the Schaller type screw placement. There's no rush, I'll think about what I want to do.

Those go so nice with the ebony headstock, Tio. :nice guitar:
That is if that is an ebony headstock. looks black in the picture.
I'm thinking about putting the Gotoh Black midsize. What do you think? or the Gold?

Any way of doing copper or antiqued bronze? The colors of the leafs beckon to more of a bronze tone rather than black or gold, IMHO.

Yes, for sure, I went with black because of the headstock and gold because its the only finish that I can find to match the leaf.
Are there other flavors available that I've missed?
Beautiful headstock and fretboard! Go with the black as to not draw any attention away from the inlay.

I think that is true. Thanks.
I did this combo on my L-03WL

RRGGuitarman..... :thumb Those Gotoh Schallers are the correct ones . Black has to be the go with the Maple, but the Gold ones would look great too. :gotpics: Please show us when you have them installed.

Very nice!
I do like the look of the Gotoh Midsize, but I also like Schaller style. I'm kind of leaning toward the Gotoh Midsize because of the durable finish, at least that what I've gathered from the Gotoh website. Thanks.

My 2012 L-03 with wood inlayed logo with black 510 tuners.
(This guitar was built in Canada... wonder if they'd put a smaller version of the maple leaves on this headstock? I really like that maple leaf inlay! )

The black looks very nice on that headstock.
Thank you.
Is Stewart-MacDonald the best place to buy? are there other places? their shipping is a bit high.
Thanks.
Try here: http://www.japarts.ca/Gotoh/Gotoh-Products-SG510.asp
If you're in Canada they may be cheaper than Stew-Mac depending on how far they're shipping.
I bought mine there and they were very friendly to deal with and good about giving updates, and following up on emails.
I found that website, but the shipping from Japan and 2-3 weeks to deliver kind of discouraged me.
Thanks.
I have ordered all my Gotoh products direct ( http://www.g-gotoh.com/international/ ) I have always dealt with Scott Ando, sales manager at Domo International. Email him direct at domointl@gmail.com.
Great service,
Dave
Thank you so much.
webberink, Thanks for that link. I've always and went through Stewmac.
I like that 'X-Nickel' color!
rrguitarman... The color on my Larrivee pictured is Cosmo Black, not Black Chrome.
Here is mine with the gold and black buttons.
Sharp!
Very nice.

Dave

Wow! That inlay really stands out! Yes, those tuners are great working tuners. Smooth.
Enjoy!
Is there a full guitar pic available? I'd like to see the inlay. Thanks.

Turned out wonderfully! The black cosmo finish is widely adaptable I feel.
The longer I own the 510 mini's the more I like them.
Thanks for the pics. Very nice inlay. :thumb
You're welcome, thank you for your interest.
Besides the beauty this OM is the liveliest guitar I have ever played, a very sweet voice. I was also surprised how easily it plays with the mediums that it came with.
I dropped these antique gold/ebony button 510's in my new OM-03 JCL in about 5 minutes!
Great look!

How did you manage to do that in 5 minutes? that is fast.
Looks great BTW.

could've taken 10, rr! Maybe 15, but then it took me 30 minutes to restring it.
I have a question with regard to Gotoh 510 tuner installation when replacing standard Ping tuners on a Larrivee Guitar. Has anyone had to fill and re-drill the screw holes to get the Gotoh 510 tuners to fit? I am having a discussion with the dealer about the new Luxury Mode tuners and he seems to think there is a difference in the screw hole angle. I have not experienced this problem. Have any of you?

In the past, I have filled the hole with a (wood) toothpick, stained to (closely) match the existing wood, and drilled a new hole. I haven't bothered with any finish. And haven't had any problem with it. I'm not sure if I've done this with a Larrivee.

And... yet another question (that I've probably asked before).
If anyone has put a set of 21:1 510's on their parlor, do you remember which ones fit? My preference would be a set of mini's (for reduced weight), but they only come in 18:1. If the regular size fits, I could at least get smaller buttons to slightly reduce the weight.
Ed
Hey Ed. Contact Josh Gemmell with Japarts.ca, he has experience with Larrivee parlors and Gotoh 510 minis and he is a dealer. He tells me that the mid size will likely fit. Very knowledgeable... Josh Gemmell <info@japarts.ca>
eded, I'll post this link a again about drop in tuners.
Drop in, no drill, no hole fill tuners. (http://www.larriveeforum.com/smf/index.php?topic=46745.msg411991#msg411991)
Hope this helps!

Every Larrivee guitar I have upgraded to Gotoh 510SGLZ 1:21 ratio tuning machines have been a no fill, no drill, drop in replacement. A few pics follow for illustration...
new nickel finish first.
Antique gold.
Chrome Luxury Mode.
XG locking.
Gold Luxury Mode.
Think I like the first best,,,the nickle. My .05 :beer
Me too. They just started making them in nickel and I bought two sets. The next one goes on my J-03. Japarts has them on sale for $71 on ebay right now...
