I agree. Those coffee beans died in vain...  :coffee

It's often a status symbol in these times to have a cup of pricey coffee in one hand, and a fancy phone in the other as the keys to some fancy vehicle dangle off one finger.  I see this all the time.  Though I do inwardly laugh at people being ridiculous, I often wonder how I am being just as ridiculous in some other way and don't see it...

Glad to see this still getting some posts 👍😀

I started drinking coffee when I was 16 years old. It was a very conscious decision. Part of that decision was that if I was going to drink it I wasn't going to mask the flavor of it with cream or sugar. Straight up. Black.
I used to take a thermos-full with me every day to work.
I suppose I don't drink quite as much coffee as I used to.
But that 1st cup in the morning sure does taste good to me even now though.
Sometimes late at night when I can't get to sleep, I will listen to Mississippi John Hurt. He has such a soothing voice. Sort of like a lullaby, I guess. His songs can lull me back to sleep.
Such a steady thumb as he picks his guitar.
And he has the kindest face.
This is "Coffee Blues".
(That may be a euphemism)

No one sings a story quite like Mississippi John!
When I first started drinking coffee in college back in the '70s there were the big 3 pounding their jingles into your brain on TV:
Maxwell House "Good to the last drop"
Folgers  "Mountain grown for flavor"
Yuban  "Richness worth a second cup"

Thank goodness you can easily buy fresh roasted beans these days!

Black coffee is the best way to actually taste the coffee.  But, man, a shot of whole cream in it is like a really pretty girl getting a bit prettier after being dolled up for a date.  My opinion, of course.

And I don't disagree. Just that when I was a teenager, I figured if I didn't like the taste of black coffee, then what was the point so why drink it at all.
These days once in a while in the evening I'll pour a shot of Irish Cream in a mug of the leftover mornings coffee. Especially hoary nights like we're getting this month.

Yeah. Down here, our worst night will be tonight.
Of course, our worst cold weather is nowhere near yours.
We only got down to 19 last night. That is down in "never really gets that cold down here". Still have to worry about humidity and guitars. Doing good with that.

I had a couple excellent cups of Tim H's medium roast with a splash of whole milk tonight.  We were out of cream.  Great stuff!

It's ZERO here in SE Michigan right now but it will rise to 17° later on this afternoon.

Most folks won't drink coffee at night but it doesn't seem to keep me awake.
I've only had Tim Horton coffee in their   :donut restaurants along the highways but it always gets high praise on this forum.

Never seen a Tim H restaurant.  Is that a Canadian thing?  We just started getting their coffee in Texas.

Canadian, for sure, but they have expanded south of the border into New York, Ohio and Michigan with over 600 stores in the US.

Crazy to me that people can sleep after drinking coffee. I have to make sure I don't need to sleep within 5 hours because that's how long it'll keep me awake. But, I've known plenty of people, including my wife, who seem entirely unaffected.

I love a cup of coffee after dinner. It does not keep me up, but if I overdo it I might have to take a trip to the little room in the middle of the night.

I was listening to a podcast this week and someone referenced a Tim Horton's donut shop?  I think he said he went to one up in Michigan ("up" for me, anyway).  Does Tim H's have a donut franchise kind of like Dunkin?  We have Dunkin around here and the donuts are not only great but the coffee is wonderful too.  They even have espresso drinks (hot or cold).

I'm sure somewhere in this thread (not going to be back and look) we've discussed Dutch Bros.  They have somewhat recently come to our area, and while the coffee isn't bad, it isn't great either.  Not worth the price to me, but the younger folks around here really seem to enjoy it.  I will say the place has a pretty cool vibe, the employees are very friendly, and it makes for a pleasant stop if nothing else.  In our neighborhood there is a Dutch Bros just down the street from Starbucks and I'm pretty sure this has hurt SB's business.  Cars are often wrapped around the building at DB, while I don't see this at the local SB.

I used to drop into SB occasionally and get a chai tea for my wife, but a couple years ago I noticed the SB employees wearing company-made t-shirts with in-your-face (in mine, anyway) political statements on them.  That is when I decided they had gone beyond the realm of selling me coffee and into the realm of preaching to me.  At that point they no longer needed my money.  They seem to have gotten on fine without it, and I've gotten on fine sans their coffee.  So life goes on.

I think of Tim Hortons' stores as donut shops although they sell more than that I guess. Very similar to Dunkin which doesn't like to be called Dunkin Donuts any more or so I've read.
I buy Starbucks on occasion and I don't care what they wear on their shirts. Most of their staff have purple hair or they're pretty well inked up on their arms.
When I was their age it was long hair, tie dye and bell bottoms.
It's a rite of passage I guess, and one day their gen will be pushing the levers of power.
Working a food service job like that is good for them and will be a formative part of their young adulthood as they age and get some gray hair and the accompanying wisdom.
It's gonna cost them though, if they want to make that ink go away.
😁

One thing I will say about Starbucks- if I ever go, I just get a black coffee, and it tastes pretty darn amazing.  It is impressive black coffee.

I agree that SB has great coffee.  They didn't get that big by selling crummy coffee.

I'll be careful not to offend anyone and just say, if you think Starbucks black coffee tastes good, get yourself a coffee grinder and buy just about any coffee that comes in whole-bean at the store. You might develop a very different perspective.

No offense taken.
Was a time a long time ago, I had a grinder.
Not to say Starbucks is the best but I enjoy the flavor as a change from what I brew at home (which you might not like at all).
I buy Costco Colombian.
I'd be the first to admit I'm no coffee connoisseur.
