"End times"? Remember the boy who cried wolf?
Solving for L
L = the length of time that an advanced civilization lasts.

The Drake equation is a probabilistic argument used to estimate the number of active, communicative extraterrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way Galaxy.

The Drake Equation is part of why there are official searches for alien life. 10 x 100% x 25% x 100% x 1% x 50% x 1,000,000 = 12,500 intelligent alien civilizations which may currently exist.

There is a new audience for end times hysteria in each generation, and each generation's "evidence" is rock solid.  People crave novelty, inside knowledge, and it appeals to man's vanity to think he is part of a chosen generation.  It's also true that many people would rather do anything other than get their own lives/houses/affairs in order and mind their own business.

This generation is a tad more interesting because now we can throw the climate crackpots into the mix.  With so many prevailing dystopian views, small wonder there is an uptick in depression, etc.

Who knows- I might fall into the category of climate crackpots in some folks' estimation, but I have to agree with your over-arching premise.

Totally agree.
